SSG, Amaroq, i take your views on board, but i would say that in the majority of cases, there is far too much distance between the two players for any sort of jostling or contact to have taken place. Believe me, i always try to find logical explanations for what i see in FM, but this is, in my opinion, a glaring problem with the match engine that is affecting my enjoyment of the game. And i don't think i'm alone. Searching round, it seems to have been mentioned a good few times on various threads.

I agree with Norville Rodgers. I also always try to find a logical explanation, and I always assume in this situation that my defender had his shirt pulled by the striker, although the ref didn't notice it.

As Norville Rodgers said though: shirt-pulling and jostling is not really a possibility, as there is often quite a gap between the players. The defender just stops.

It doesn't ruin the game for me though, but it sure is annoying.

some of the time i'm sure the player has fallen over or been kncoked to the ground. not always though.
but as i've said in another post 8 clean sheets in 11 league games for me means my defense can't be that bad

Yes I've also noticed this. I've always thought it was the defender falling down which does happen. But it happens far too often!!

Have SI conversed about this matter on any other thread?
Or are they, as per usual, "Pleading the fifth"?

If they're side-by-side, the ST has tackled, or otherwise knocked your DC to the ground. They are jostling for position all the way down the pitch, and someone wins. Sometimes it's your DC, but you don't complain about that...

And, sometimes, depending on the ref, there's a foul called, too. The ST is more likely to be more aggressive as well, since the DC would be wary of a professional foul.

I think he's likely to have fallen to the ground. How he got there is open to question: Attempted a slide tackle but missed the ball? Shouldered out of the way by the striker? Stumbled and fell of his own accord?

Not that that helps us prevent it. But at least it provides a better mental image than "he gave up on the play" or "he just came to a dead stop".
Unfortunately a lot of the time these assumptions can't possibly be used as excuses, because it happens even when there is a good 10 yards between DC and ST.

It's yet one more reason why the latest patch makes the match engine so horrendously bad.

I saw this in my game aswell although i actually did a double take when i saw it.
Their striker just received a pass from midfield just over midway into my own half, no prob i though 3 players to chase him down, they began to close in then just ran away...
I was so shocked i didnt even shout at my screen it was amazing they just ran away from him and he ran through and beat my keeper obv
Its annoying but it was quite funny
