Not sure if I should post this here or in the Tactics forum, but here it is...
I was wondering whether I can effectively play an AML and AMR player on the FL and FR position. As a fan of the 'Ajax-system' 4-3-3 I used to play an FL and FR in earlier versions of CM/FM. I used to sign players who had AM/F L (or R) as their favourite position. Since 2007 (or was it 2006?) the FL and FR positions disappered as player's positions though, although you cán put players in these positions in you tactics screen.
As I can't retrain my players' postion to FL or FR, I was wondering how this works in FM2008. Can I use an AML in FL position, and should he be able to play well there? Should I use players with AML/FC instead? Or should I absolutely avoid the FL and FR positions and just put an AML and AMR with an arrow in my tactic?
I've been wondering about this too. I'm still playing FM06 though. Anyway, I frequently use the FL/FR positions to great effect. What I try and do is train the players so that they can play as both striker and attacking winger.
In general, attacking wingers seem to be better than strikers at playing FL/FR. But I find it makes sense to train them to play as strikers too - it gives you more tactical options, such as allowing you to play either FC/FC/FC or FL/FC/FR up front depending on your opposition. Or you might add side arrows instead.
i think you would find that in the last few versions, the engine tolerated players being played out of their natural position a whole lot better. so playing an AMR/L in the fr/l positions would not affect performances much.
i'm partial to the amr/l with farrow to fr/l anyways..
