Score is 0-0. I score a goal on the 85th minute. I set my tactics at 5-4-1, Ultra Defensive style, no forwards runs, waste time etc etc.. On the 87th minute my new tactics are applied. No highlights until 93th minute and then...
Guess what.. I conceded a goal on the 94th minute from A COUNTER-ATTACK...
Now, when you have 19 games withount a win , I promise you that this can drive you nuts..
You might want to check your individual players mentalities, in a lot of cases they may still be set to att or norm mentality.
Similarly, a striker/winger with low team working may ignore your orders and attack anyway.
Although on the new fm i've found that very often my team orders are ignored by even the best players in the world, it's more than a little frustrating.

You make some good points, but your second paragraph is the most accurate. moreso than on any version since CM4, i find protecting leads almost impossible. It's as if the AI has determined that the opposition WILL score, whatever you do. 5-4-1, Ultra defensive, set each player to defensive, sometimes it just doesn't matter. that 95th minute winner will go in.

I had set all my players mentality as the team's and then set my team's mentality as Ultra Defensive.
My players must have the crappiest stats of the world since I play in the Conference North but still I would accept to concede a goal from the opposition high pressure. But not from a counter-attack...
attack is best defence. to remove atackers is to remove someone to play to in upper field and meaning the fm2008 ball automaticly bounce back to midfield or worse.
Ultra Defensive...yeah...
