I can recommend signing Leighton Baines as a left back. Got him as my first signing for Arsenal, and he's been the business. There is a good, cheap(ish) defensive central midfielder in South America, called Gago (do a search). If you've got a bit of money to spend, there's Sissoko at Liverpool, or De Rossi at Roma.
