I'm on the PC version myself but friend of mine just had that problem and while he could save fine for some time he suddenly couldn't, no matter what he tried (and apparently been trying for couple days). Went over to his place, checked it out a bit and finally decided to (in order):
- Take out his memory card (not sure if relevant but that's first thing we did)
- Clear his HDD cache.
- Turn off the Xbox.
- Start it up again and start the game.
Worked like a charm, could save without problem.
After couple minutes however, the Xbox 360 suddenly froze. My mate, not even surprised, just mentioned that it happened once in a while, with any game, something to do with early batch of Xbox 360.
We then restarted the Xbox, tried FM07 again, and bam...couldn't save.
Re-did the steps again and it worked like a dream again.
So...while not saying it's going to work 100%, try it out if you are having save problems.
Note: To clear HDD cache go to the system blade and then select Memory.
Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X.
Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?". Select yes, should be fast.
Cheers for the tip, but it doesn't really solve the problem - once you've switched the 360 off and cleared the cache then you've lost all your unsaved progress anyway.
If your mate is going to stick with it (personally I can't be bothered - I'm going to try to get my cash back) then tell him that the best workaround I've found is saving after each and every game. If the save game fails then at least you haven't lost too much play, and he should be able to switch the 360 off, restart and reload.
Most of the time that seems to 'reset' the problem, and he should be able to save again. (For a while, at least, until the problem crops up again.) He should save as soon as it's reloaded, though, just to make sure that it has 'reset' the problem.
(Also, he might find that the latest save doesn't work and he's got to go back to the one before that.)
Yea, though there seem to be 2 different kind of "cannot be loaded" problem. One is corrupted data because you switch off the Xbox 360 while it's still saving (due to saving progress bar disappearing too fast) and other one caused by something else.
Quite easy to check I think. In the hard drive detail, check the size of your saved game. If it's less than 76mb, your save is probably corrupted and nothing can be done to restore it. If it's 76mb or above, clear cache, shut down and start game, that did it for him (he couldn't load his game when he had the "cannot save" problem).
But you're right, it's bloody annoying especially since there doesn't seem to be the "rotating autosave" function for the 360.
