I had a really annoying thing happen with Randy Lerner. He told me that I needed to sign a high profile player to increase the profile of the club and that he would give me money to do it. So I tried to sign someone that was out of my budget, but the transfer was cancelled due to lack of funds.
So I asked the board for more money - they said no! When the end of the transfer window arrived, Lerner had a go at me for not taking him up on his generous offer!
when you made an offer for this player did you get a notice at the bottom of the transfer screen saying the chairman was happy that you where signing such a high profile player?
if you get this when it come to confirming the transfer you get a notice along the lines of "the chairman is pleased yu are signing such a high profile player who will improve the squad so he is willing to go over the transfer budget"
