If you look carefully enough you'll find someone as good if not better than the dude you've lost. Even if it takes a few months you may have to change your formation to only 1 up front with an attacking midfielder.
Hey, I mean I got Talal El Karkouri for £600k thinking heres a nice strong centre half with a good free-kick. what I never knew was that he's a makeshift centre-forward I only had one fit first-team striker out of 6! and that was Ameobi with like 83% fitness, so i benched him and put El Karkouri up front. In 3 games he scored twice and got an assist.
Also if you play some of the youngsters or reserve strikers you might find there better than you think.
john obi mikel become unsettled for me but i stuck him in the reserves for a few months then put him back in the first team and then he was not unsettled after a while. your player has a few years to go on his contract so hold onto him and see if his mood improves offer him a new contract
I would use th option to block all bids on him or at least wait untill a bid comes in and accept it but make sure the asking price you ask for is rediculous, that way the player seems to blame the approaching club and not yourself. That and give him a lil praise form time to time
You could always ask him to recommend a signing, and then sign that player - apparently they like you more for that. Or if he has a favourite personnel, try to sign him.
