Probably taking over "cash-strapped" espanyol, and finding out they are in the hole for $20 mil. Two days into the job parma comes in and makes the min release bid for my best defender who's only 19. Of course i try offering a new contract with a higher min release fee, he rejects and i lose him.

So im drowning in debt, the new season starts, and i have 4 first team players whose contracts run out at the end of the season, and my board has reduced the wage budget by 15mil so im now 10 mil over budget and cannot sign any of my key players back. One player is wanted by benfica, but they always bid about 1mil less than im asking for, finally in december i decide to renegotiate for a higher fee, and they go and sign someother player and come back to me saying they arent interested anymore. Jan 2nd comes along and they sign my player on a bosman, great missed out on a few mil and im stuck paying this guys wages for another 6mos.

Oh and going up 3-1 against zaragoza(2nd placed), away from home, and deciding to stay attacking. they scored 2 in the space of 5mins after i scored my 3rd. lost 4-5.
That's not a mistake tbf - you've taken on a hell of a challenge but it's gotta be rewarding surely?

Hahaha, I did that in the French cup the other day, not realizing that we have 5 subs instead of 7 somehow I put my keeper as sub 1 and my AMC as GK... I realized it at HT and the score was... 2-0 for me and the other team had 0 shot on target... I guess I got lucky but that was a terrible decision!!! :thdn:

Registered: 10 January 2007 Posted 13 February 2007 15:27 Well i too accidentally put a defender in goals instead of making him a sub. Found out just before i started the game but it was useless as none of my subs were gks so i had to play the game with a defender in goals lol
Clearly this is a very common mistake - perhaps SI should program in a warning that flashes up to let you know

That would be awesome! Not that it happens to me a lot (once in over 500 games played) but still, it couldn't hurt to have that in place.

i think it would be something so simple for them to implement and it would help us players out no end

Oops, messed that last one up. Just saw this tonight. Rewarding? ya i guess so. With absolutely no maneuvering room with my sqaud, all i can do is pretty much just hope for the best and hope i get some good youth come up thru the ranks. Currently im defying the predictions, and only sitting 3 points out of a spot in europe. If i make into a cup competition then i'll feel like ive accomplished something, and then hopefully my recognition will rise, and ill be able to move to club that understands financial responsibility. Ive noticed my avg attendance has jumped about 9 thousand people, and i still cant turn monthly profits. My scouts are sitting on their arse doin nothin but filing report cards just to cut down on traveling costs...its a sad sad state of affairs.

Bought Christiano Ronaldo from Man Utd for £24m. He lasted 8 games before a 'hip problem' which left him out for 4 months. He came back and managed to keep getting injured every game I played him. It took me another season before I could offload him for £8m to Barca

I did have one other screwup. I had a backup keeper who was crying about 1st team football constantly. I playing him one game and he got a 6 and lost so I decided to ship him out and get another, quieter backup. I got 3 mil for him which was a big discount. I just wanted him to go away.

Fast forward four years. My keepers are getting old and I need a keeper. I'm at Liverpool still and have about 40 million left in the transfer budget. I look for the very best keeper money can buy and who the heck do I see at the top of the list? My old pal I sold, now the star keeper for Real Madrid. I ended up biting the bullet and buying him back for 20 million.

Oh well, I'm surprised he even agreed to come back to England and play for my team. He did play pretty well though once he came back.
