For fun, I kicked open a fresh, unpatched copy of Football Manager 2007 to see how things have changed. One thing that stuck out was how easy it was to pick up cards.
After much testing, I found a tactic that works well against the AI, possibly an exploit (sadly, it doesn't work in latter patches and in 2008). Riding on Easy tackling and counter-attacks, picking up red cards for the opposition was a given. Which is why some of you may be wondering how I got into the Champions League (through a couple of sneaky buys, long-term financial meltdown and the following screenshots always help). I got a very easy draw in the Champions League knockout rounds (very lucky, actually, teams like Shakhtar and Dinamo Bucharest).
But I'm not here to talk about Xerez, the team I took control over - but just to show you how blessed we are to have a game that, although buggy, is hardly the worst game in the world...
Note: I wasn't in charge of any of these games - this result just drew my attention. This isn't my Xerez game - it's another one - a very old screenshot.
As you may figure, I look forward to Real Madrid matches. I haven't lost to them in 4 games.
