Im playing as Sheffield Wednesday and after about 25 games im currently 8th.
I've played as them before prior to the patch and noticed this...
After about 10 games the team start to play immensely well, we won 7 games in a row and basically were looking unbeatable! then for no reason the team plays like a sunday league team! we've now won 2 games in 9 with 6 defeats and a draw, i havent changed anything tactically or player wise and just wondered if anyone else has noticed this whilst managing the mighty owls?
1. managing player morale is quite difficult, so saying the wrong thing even after a good win (e.g. "why can't you play like this all the time") might upset players, morale goes, and results starts slipping. If my Assistant Manager has a good Man Management attribute, I usually let him do the talking and only add my two cents worth if he's too harsh.
2. all teams go off the boil, becoming complacent and such. You see that in cup upsets, when the lower league team is more motivated than the higher league team. Maintaining a good run is all the more difficult if players have low professionalism - which is why top teams can maintain longer runs, as their players usually are tops in professionalism and attitude.
(Roy Keane at Sunderland is always saying he's looking for players with the right attitude.)
I agree with you mate, although... i have not said 'why cant you play like this all the time' yet in a team talk so that cant be it, im not complaining i just wondered what the cause could be. One thing i didnt agree with is this...
David Thompson (free transfer) has been playing awesome or was in the 7 games we won on the bounce, superb morale as you can imagine, then we lost a game that we should of won and his morale after the game was very poor! He played well in the game we got beat in as did the rest of the team so i said i was pleased with the performance despite losing, i think the drop in morale is slighty over the top.
Not really. Playing good and losing can be devastating. I know that I hate those kind of matches the most, so it could be the same with your player, esp. if he is light-hearted. But the drop in morale is quite big.

Playing good and loosing shouldn't be devastating if the team has a good run - then players would say "Well, we'll just have to win next one, we have all the quality".
However if a team is on a poor run and it plays good and looses than it could have a bad effect on morale, because players could feel that there is nothing they could do to start winning.
If only they would avoid this in real life too. Last season we started poor, got better when Laws come in. January hit and we we ***** again, then we got great. This season we had the worst start ever and now we doing well.
I agree 100% BayernMB. Things like this frustrate me so much because its obvious that the squad i have is good enough to gain promotion, we were unbeaten in 12 games and were walking all over teams, i understand that winning streaks and good form cant last forever but the sudden drop from performing really well and outplaying teams to scraping 2 wins in 9 and awful morale is just far too drastic.
