Default Youth Team - Lower Leagues

I started a game as Redditch (BSN) and i have just finished my 2nd season, winning the league in the process.

I have just taken in my 3rd set of youngsters (if you inc. the set you start with) and now have approx 35 players aged 18 or under. Whilst i'm not paying any of them more than about £10 per week, the first sets youth contracts aren't up for another year. Basically i can't release any of them for less than a £1,000 penalty. Bear in mind my annual turnover is only a little over £300,000. So i have 2 questions;

- Has anyone else noticed this, if so, how have you got round it?

- Surely in real life, a semi-pro club doesn't have to pay to get rid off all the dross cluttering up their club?

My only advice would be to make sure you're in control of their contracts, not your assistant manager, as he'll likely offer them contracts even if they are awful.

If you take control, you can release them when their contract's up.

I have this in my game too , but I am only in the second season.

It looks like a bug as I have unticked the box for Ass Man to Handle youth Team contracts etc yet they are still automatically offered new contracts.

There is a thread in the bugs forum might be worth you posting there to add support.

One thing I was thinking of doing was offering a new shorter contract and try and release them on a free at the earliest oppotunity as most of them have been offered contracts to 2011 !!!!!!!! could have a huge squad of youth players by then

Thanks Ross...i've not had my Assistant actually offer any new contracts, but you're right, the players are tied in for a long time right from the start anyway!

Most of my players are £1,000 to get rid of, so i can't see it dropping any lower even if i shorten the contracts, as the game tends to work in multiples of thousands for things like this. I will give it a go anyway though!

Same thing here. Started as Leigh (BSN). Now in third season, switched to taking care of all contracts myself after first season. Still getting about 8 new youth players each year all starting out with three year(I think, could be four, can't be sure without checking), £10 per week youth contracts. I can't afford to pay them off.

I too thought of offering them 1 year pro deals just so I could get rid quicker and cheaper but it seemed so unrealistic and probably wouldn't save any money anyway, as you say.

This can't be right.

You can release them for nothing after offering them an amateur contract, as long as they accept.

I have a problem but I find their getting payed too much. I'm managing in Wales where many first teamers are on less than £100 a week and all my youth team are on £50. They rarely sign for less so my wages are going through the roof!

Apparently it's likely to be fixed in the mythical patch that they talk of..

Could this be that they were offered pre-contracts before their 17th birthday and also before you assumed control of the team.

With my LLM experiences, when I am in control of youth contracts, the first batch has signed a bunch of pre-contract agreements with the former manager and his staff.
