You have to remember that most people run England as the active league which tends to improve their performance. Not that I disagree with the points about them being over rated.

Just checked mine in 2012 and they haven't made the final of any major tournament.

The squad is almost exactly the same as it is irl today because there is no good english regens. The U19 player don't look good enough for conference.

In my latest game England reached the final of Euro 2008, losing to France. I'm only running the Scottish league but I have all English players loaded.

In fairness, despite rather wishing there were a way of setting the results, and despite being Scottish, I don't particularly mind them qualifying. I admit I would have been ticked off had they won it though.

But I will say that with the players that they have, there's no reason why England shouldn't have qualified in RL and go on to win it. Poor management and over-confidence are the problems. This is easily manipulated in FM. England aren't overrated on FM, McLaren is.

They were the winners of euro 2008 in my game and are doing very well in the world cup qualifieres. Obviously the only reason they are doing so well is because of the manager - Me!

OK - I did a bit of testing. Someone mentioned earlier just adjusting MacLarens CA & PA - knocked him down to 1 for each on the first test save (his other stats dropped to virtually nothing). Also set his contract expiry to 24th November - 2 or 3 days after the Croatia match. I also set him to join Sydney FC on the 25th.

England beat Russia 3-1 away - so that didn't work.

Next I tried what I suggested earlier - dropped all 3 keepers in the squad to 1 CA and 1 PA. while keeping MacLarens stats at 1.

Lost to Russia 2-1 and then drew with Croatia 2-2 - finished 3rd in the group = hoorah!!

BUT..... MacLaren was offered a new contract until 2011 AND started managing Sydney FC too!

Probably have to change board confidence in FMM too

Found out you can't change confidence in FMM so I changed his 3 reputation stats to 1 instead

Lost to Russia 2-1
Lost to Croatia 3-2

Maclaren was still given a new contract until 2011!!

Seems you can't change board and fan confidence in the official editor either

now his CA & PA, man management, motivating and all 3 reputaion stats are set to 1.

Also removed the move to sydney. Contract set to expire 23/11/07

With his reputation and ability there should be no way his contract is renewed
