Last November 2003, Microsoft purchased a small Hong Kong-based software firm named Creature House. One of their principal products was a vector graphics editing program called Expressions 3. Primarily a Mac product, they also had a Windows version; both versions received very positive reviews.
Microsoft is currently giving away both the Mac and the Windows versions for free! Just go to
No, I don't know about updates. To me the fact that this existed as freeware was news so I thought to post it for anyone who also might not have run into it before.
A little further research indicates that Microsoft bought it a year ago. About April 2004 they had done an 'upgrade' (whatever that means) and released the Mac version as Freeware. Speculation was rife that the Mac version would no longer be developed. Then, in June 2004, the freeware Windows version was released. There apparently have been no further public releases of the software since then. \:]
The Mac version says Beta on the splash but it's an official build, there's no time limit on the software as far as I've been able to discover, and you can save files which means it's not crippled. It's pretty cool software! I intend to dive into it later today.
Yeah it would appear actually that the things i was referring to HAVE indeed been added/updated. Excellent! :}
Yeah i'm digging this lil app too. It does a few interesting things that no other app does; yet.
PS: i was very surprised to read that this lil program was the originator of 'Paths'. that's certainly interesting news. You can find that lil tidbit in the pdf manual. :B
