I sold howard for 10mil. Tried to get Akinfeev but he went to Arsenal for 22mil. Tried to get Gordan from relegated sunderland..no luck.
Figured that not particularly good gk did well for opponents so maybe no need to worry. Wessels was rated my best gk by assman but thought i would take experiment further and stuck Turner in goals. I guess he is probably not rated particularly lowly but 7 clean sheets in 11???
Anyone else tried or willing to try putting a U18 gk in goals. And yes i am aware of the Kaka experiment.

in editor there is 1-20 for fav position. They made his gk 20. his keeper stats were left at there current useless ones handling, 1v1's etc). He was very good. They seem to feel it is due to his having a high Current ability. Obviously u18's gk in most clubs probably don't so experimenting with this might show that variety in gk's abilities is not taken into account sufficiently enough by match engine.
I can catagorically say that it's definitely worth buyiong a good keeper.
I'm playing as Gateshead in the Blue Square North. In my first season I was stuck with the keeper who starts at the club and he was useless. He conceeded a ton of goals and finished the season with a 6.42 average rating. This went some way towards me finishing 16th.
At the end of the season I let him go as his contract had expired. Unfortunately I struggled to replace him so ended up with my U18 keeper starting the season in goal. Suffice to say he was even worse and I was leaking goals left right and centre at the start of the season. So, getting desperate I scoured the player search screen trying to find a new keeper and offered contracts to pretty much every unattached keeper I could find. Luckily one of them agreed to join me and even more luckily he was excellent for the league I was in.
The result? I ended the season top of the league with 103 points. It wasn't all down to the keeper but he certainly played a large part. Just watching the highlights I could see the difference he made. Shots that seemed to go straight through my other keepers were actually being saved by him!

If you read further down that dedacle of a post yesterday, they actually changed him mid way through the season and he only played 3 games in goal. The first 2 games he got a 7 only because he wasn't tested much, then he hade a mare of a game conceding 4 and getting a rating of 5. Which didn't prove much because if he was set as a GK before the game had started his stats would have been realigned tobe more suited towards being a GK.

This rather interesting, but how well was it tested e.g. for over a season?
Yes, definately a good GK makes a difference for my Panathinaikos. But you have to know what attributes to look for.
What I mainly look for: Reflexes, Handling, Jumping, character, Positioning, Acceleration. In that order.
I have Begovic now, he's only missing Accelaretion. He's only missing Acceleration (9), and he concedes about 1-2 goals a season because of this fact (high acceleration strikers with the ball at their feet can easily take him out of position). But other than that, he is the man!
PS. When I talk about character, I mean this: I 've never seen him afraid of an upcoming opponent. So I guess he must have a pretty decent Pressure rating, although I haven't checked.

Maybe big difference between bad and ok gk's not enough between ok and good goalkeepers?
You also have to take into account the rest of your team, a bad GK at a club like Chelsea is going to have less to do than at a club like Middlesborough, purely down to how much better the defence is at restrict the number of chances the opposition strikers will have.
Yeah sure it's gonna be less noticeable at the better teams. But it's not like no one noticed that the keepers at Man Utd. were terrible between Schmeichal and Van Der Saar. Same with England keepers behind a supposedly good team.
On the other hand suppose Man U did still do well at the time.
Maybe there is a problem more with the average rating system than performance so you just not really seeing which GK's are doing well based on that.
Turner is leading the way in the division with avr 7.5. Agreed I think team performance is due to good defenders so if my team was performing exactly the same yet he had av rating of 7 would possibly not see an issue.
