in editor there is 1-20 for fav position. They made his gk 20. his keeper stats were left at there current useless ones handling, 1v1's etc). He was very good. They seem to feel it is due to his having a high Current ability. Obviously u18's gk in most clubs probably don't so experimenting with this might show that variety in gk's abilities is not taken into account sufficiently enough by match engine. </BLOCKQUOTE>

If you read further down that dedacle of a post yesterday, they actually changed him mid way through the season and he only played 3 games in goal. The first 2 games he got a 7 only because he wasn't tested much, then he hade a mare of a game conceding 4 and getting a rating of 5. Which didn't prove much because if he was set as a GK before the game had started his stats would have been realigned tobe more suited towards being a GK. </BLOCKQUOTE>

ahh so the Kaka experiment proved nothing because it was never fully tested

Of course there is: a good goalkeeper will win games for you.

Such a strange question. It's almost as strange as asking why you would need someone who can score goals regularly.

No he played a lot more than 3 games unless there were multiple experiments going on using similar parameters. On 1 he played over a season in goals his gk stats were up to 4/5.

Proof....well even scientists with millions of pounds budgets struggle to prove anything or find what they think they proved is actually wrong in later years.

Good goalkeepers definitely matter. An average goalkeeper can get you through most games but in the big games and away games you'll see the difference.

I've had average goalkeepers completely collapse giving up 3-4 goals when I needed them the most (i.e. Champions League).

It's worth it. I mean, if you put in a Conference level 'keep for a game, then the next game, put in a world class 'keeper like Van Der Sar, you'd see the difference.
