Yes, I kn you can buy updates on ebay that people have made which will give you an up-to-date database, taking into account all transfers. however, how useful is this when you have a 2012-2013 database but can still only start in July 2007.
| Link? Btw, is it true that you can't alter the starting dates with the editor? Quote: |
I don't look at threads that suggest players to buy, I want to find them myself. I will trawl through a number of different leagues if necessary to find a player who can do the job i want. i take great satisfaction when i find someone.
|
Good. To each their own. And that's the bloody thing, really. I haven't taken a look at those threads myself yet because of that, by the way. I want it to prove myself the harder way. It's all up to you, and as it is, this rant's a little pointless methinks.

I don't think the starting dates can be changed Svenc. However, you could have a gander in the editors forum? I think most of those dbs are pretty much saves that people have made at a future date?

I don't see how other people playing the game using the editor effects you in any way, people pay their money so can play the game however they like, if you don't like it tough.

I used to live with a man city fan and he'd spend hours playing as utd and selling all their best players for hardly anything.
Maybe you should try that with arsenal as he really used to enjoy it.

Nah, I doubt I'd enjoy that. There are too many clubs in FM that I hate, Arsenal just happen to be the main one in my FM07 game (and most other games in England!).
Temptation has always been ripe, managing in Scotland as I do a huge amount of the time, to take over Celtic and ruin them, but I never have and never would. I just shout and swear at them instead :p

| Careful fella or somebody will start a campaign to ban shouting and swearing at FM next.

| I agree with this, i reckon that some people are lessening their enjoyment without realising. Now im not saying that they wont enjoy the game but in the first few seasons of a game they remove the enjoyment of discovering players because they have a defined shortlist before they even start the game. I have played champ man since the beginning and this is the first year i have ever registered on these forums, i had a look on some posts listing wonderkids and started reading all about -9 and -10 and all that. I really regret that i done this know as it has removed a bit of the challenge that existed before, i know i was the person that looked at it but i didnt realise they would be so comprehensive. In past versions i was still discovering great young players up untill the newer versions, i doubt that i will happen with this version. Im not syaing people should not go on these forums and discuss players all im saying by knowing approximately how good every young player will become slighlty dampens the experience. </BLOCKQUOTE>
That's all fine n dandy, but how do you explain why some of those so-called editor users and regular GPG browsers manage to play the game for umpteen seasons, and yet there's others out there that play the game the 'proper' way and get bored and quit after half a season?

If I was a student with plenty of free time I might play the game the way it should be. However, I have a full time job and plenty of commitments in my "free time". I can obviously only speak for myself here, but using editors to do things like finding good prospects helps me enjoy the game because I'm not having to use up hours getting the game to do it. Instead I can use the limited time I have to get through a season or two.
When I play on other games I always play on easy or normal as I don't have time to get to know them in enough detail due to time limitations.
If using the editor helps people eliminate parts of the game they don't like, or simply build a team that keeps winning, and it helps them enjoy it, then good for them. They spent their money on it, and have a right to enjoy it in their own way.
