Default Ctrl+Alt+Z

Using photoshop, I found this shortcut really helpful, especially when I just started learning layer masks. Then all of a sudden it stops working! I can't do this action anymore unless I go to Edit\Step Backward. Please help me start using this shortcut again...

Nevermind, it was my mistake. I had a program open that used the shortcut Alt+Z. I'll remember to keep that in mind next time!

Just keep in mind that the step backward is going backing history states, which are determined by the number of history states defined for history (from Edit / Preferences/ General). To see this check the history palette.
