Default How to win against strong teams????

i'm in my 3rd season with man city..i have a good team, not groundbreaking but good team..i finished 4th in second season and playing champions league football..
the problem is i'm finding impossible to win against teams like arsenal, chelsea, man utd, liverpool etc..i know they are better sides but come on..i'm not exactly oldham!..whatever i do i loose and am heavily outplayed..if i go attacking i get smashed, if i go defensive i get smashed..whatever i do i get smashed..i mean they get 20 shots easily against me and i cant beleive it..i regard my team as good hardworking team and it is unrealistic that every single time i get smashed against them..and it doesnt even matter if i play at home or away..it's always the same..if i play 4-4-2 or 4-4-3 or 4-5-1..it just doesnt make any difference..what should i do?
my team:
gk craig gordon
dl nicky shorey
dc richard dunne
dc micah richards
dr justin hoyte
ml martin petrov
mc benoit pedretti
mc alou diarra
mr sotiris ninis(wonderkid)
fc jermain defoe
fc valeri bojinov

not exactly a bad team...i should be able to at least get a draw at home now and then against these big teams or what?

id say good but cant belive you got 4th with that!

id get new wing backs hoyte is not good enough to deal with goo wingers ,diarra at best will only dtop average players and defoe! how much did he cost? buy a fast striker thats the only way to nick goals against the best..

it is you team an how you play is up to you of course but i had a everton team not far away from that
gk-gordon
lb-baines
cb-richards
cb-yobo
dr-eboue
ml-arteta
mc-cahill
mc-diarra
mr-matias fernandes
fc-aj
fc-palacio
and the best i got was 4th and it hard to improve.....
have you got money to spend?

yes..i have lots of cash but i can't buy anyone really good..they dont want to come..edison cavani i would get but palermo want 59million..i mean come on!!
defoe cost me 5 mil...and he is brilliant..already scored 20 goals for me and it is only december
alou diarra has the attributes that make him fantastic player..i agree on hoyte though, but the only good player for DR who wants to join is barragnan and they wont sell him for 30mil...and i dont want to spend that much for wing back..

If my team with their 2000-1 odds can finish 10th that team should be able to finish 4th. I don't know how I manage to win against the big teams, it seems my tactic is good for it, beat both ManU and Liverpool and drawed against Chelsea. I didn't change my tactics before the game I just kept playing the way my team is used to playing, a rather defensive countering 4-1-2-1-2.

eboue costs 7m if not less he is miles better for where man city are in your game..
try palacio at boca for 9m if you play him right he is very good.....
i would say go an get a few very good scouts and shop in spain they often turn out good and dont cost anywhere near what the prem clubs want

be yourself and the wins will come, i've just finished my first season in the premiership with ipswich and although i was beaten both times by chelsea and liverpool, I beat arsenal 3 times (league cup as well) scoring 3 each time, plus beating champs man U in the opening game, ok so it was at home but against a title-winning man U it doesn't make it any less tough. I will say one thing, the goalkeeper is key even in the arsenal games with looked like big wins, it would have been a different story if it wasn't for my goalkeeper keeping out a hail of chances, as well as a top class centre back pairing, its no coincidence my bad runs in the league came when either my goalkeeper or one of my first choice centre backs were missing, in the last game I had both centrebacks missing and lost 5-0, go figure. defence is key, so is a good striking partnership but all the goals in the world won't help if you can't keep them out. that way you're prepared to make the most of your chances and be in a position to hold out against their expected dominance.
