He has 37 goals in 34 matches, with 12 assists and 10 MoM.
Previous year he had 18 league goals in 34 matches in the Premiership for a team that was then relegated.
My scout says he's a 7 star player.
But his ratings just don't seem that good! He only has 4 scores above 15, and most of his mental and technical ratings are mediocre. So why is he so amazing? It's always been my understanding that finishing by itself is just not enough to make a lethal top-tier striker. If I were looking to aquire someone I normally would look past him for other players with better mental and technical ratings.

Evaluating players: Why is this guy so awesome? Post #2
I have players of amazing attributes in all areas necessary for their positions and cant win.
I go and buy players of less calibre and start scoring and winning more.
I think this is a source of a lot of frustration in the game. You really can try and buy success, but, buying the best players will never win you anything (unless the factors fall in your favour)
I like this difficult, but it can border on the absurd.
Thing is, I'm sure SI understand, know, and possibly agree with me on this (I mean, they must know the problems with the one on ones) but the thing is, how to implement it?
Could mean changing 30,000 lines of code, or a mere 1. But get it wrong, and you have broken everything.
I hope they can get it right though. My imagination is being forced to interpret all the missed one on ones as amazing goal keeping time after time is struggling due to excessive FM usage!

Again, the problem here is not that this is a bad player playing well. The game thinks he is very good. My scout rates him as a 'Good Premiership Striker' (he's playing in the Championship), so there is something about him that makes him that good that is not obvious to me. Something about his attributes or possibly hidden ones are doing this.

What team/league is he playing for/in?
If your scout rates him as 7 stars, then I guess he has a lot of potential. Despite being 26, he could be a later developer

That was in a way my point, although I talked around it a fair bit.
I want my striker, of 20 finishing/composure, to live up to this.
But when my striker of 12/10 scores for fun, I have to question the point of the attributes.
A comparison of the two players suggests the first striker is superior in everyway, so there is a hidden stat screwing him up somewhere I am sure (consistancy?)
My coaches rate my second player as quality also, I cant see it, but I chose to play him on their advice. Might as well admit they obviously know more than me, even if they are only commenting on PA/CA

Well, Looking at the player, he has some high attributes in important areas:
Finishing - 18
First Touch - 15
Technique - 14
Composure - 14
Work Rate - 15
Acceleration - 16
Pace - 16
Strength - 18
He has the technical ability to cope with the ball being played into his feet, he is clinical and can be composed in front of goal, and he has the pace and acceleration to get behind defenders, as well as the strength to really trouble defenders. His passing is not bad for a striker either.
