It also took about 20 minutes to do, now that I have the basics of PS just about down to a science!
I didn't have anything to put inside it, BUT you can put almost anything in it that you want!! Seriously, if you want to mess around with this one, the link to it is below!! It's in a zip file, and it is the psd file for the picture above!!
It's a nice effect no doubt. And you've done a good job of recreating it. Well done. :}
I feel i should point out though, for reference, that the reflections the author used are incorrect. I recommend not copying that part of the tutorial. And i'm glad to see you used a shadow instead.
FYI: The animation you posted mflintjer is a hefty 615KB in size. You may not get a lot of 56K folks sticking around for that to load.
Here's a challenge...
Since this is supposed to be a Kiosk... why not try and insert one of these into a photo of a mall or something? Or perhaps outside of an airport or other such location?
TIP: the toughest part of this effect will be matching the lighting and reflections of the surrounding environment. Good luck to anyone who tries it! I sense a bit of fudging and photo manipulation will be in order. \:] [righton]
Well, here it is! It wasn't as easy as I thought it might be! Guess I learned a good lesson in "Blending Options"!!
Anyway, It might not be as good as others, but I think it examplifies the challenge!
First is my version (can't seem to get it to load up 2nd)
Second is the original. I got it from the web! Photographer unknown, but is a picture from inside the Mall of America near the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) -- figured since I live in Minnesota, and have been to the mall, WHY NOT!!
Nice mall photo it's exactly what i was thinking of. :}
You did a good job mflintjer. To complete the illusion, you need to add highlights and reflections on the upper half (the glass) of the surrounding environment. You could also do with a few on the lower half too.
I realize this seems like a daunting task. But in the real world of art and design, this work would simply have to be done. By doing it here for this basic example project, you'll have a much better grasp on what goes into a piece like this (a photo manip/comp) so far as time/work are concerned; as well as effects. It'll also give you a much better appreciation for some of the work you see around you everyday in ads and on TV.
Where learning exercises are concerned, there's never any rush for completion. So never be afraid to tackle the job. One step at a time and it'll be done before you know it.
I took your hints into account -- and THAT IS alot of work! However, I don't give up easily, and did something of a reflection on the left side of the orb! I still have a bunch more reflections to render-up, and that will take a while to do. So here you go, the mod to my last posting! [righton]
