Challenge Idea - Just a basis, but I think it could work
This is my first post on the forum, and I have had this idea of a challenge for a while, and was discussing it with my friend. We were going to try it but I'd like to get other peoples opinions first. I think it would be fun, and also a really testing challenge to try to complete. It might be rather time-consuming but I think it would depend on the manager you choose
Walking with the Gods Challenge
Pick a manager of your choice (preferably one with relative success, e.g. Ferguson, Shankly, Clough, Robson etc) and follow their exact career paths, trying to emulate/beat their achievements
Step 1 - Start with your manager of choice and take control of their first club, matching their achievements (or bettering them) There is no official time limit but it would be good if you did it in same amount of time as them
[B]Step 2[/B - Once that is completed, take control of their next club and again guide the at least the same success as they had during their tenure there. Repeat this process up until career is complete, or to the present day if the person is still managing
The only regulations are that if at any stage you are sacked from a club before the achievements are matched you must restart the challenge. If stage is complete but you are just trying to beat it and get sacked, that is acceptable.
Ideally, you must wait till job opportunities open up at the next club you need, during which time you can either stay at the club you are managing or be unemployed
If you are following the path of a manager who has never managed the national side (Ferguson or Clough for example) then you may take the National job at any time during the game, but only if offered or you have applied for the vacant position. If your man has been in charge of the national side you must wait for the right time to take over
Would anyone be interested in this or is it not of interest to anyone? If people have suggestions to improve it then feel free, I am always happy to listen to criticism. If the need be then any suggestions how I could improve my efforst would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Nick

Doing it as Brian Clough would be one hell of a journey. Back to back European cup trophies with Notts Forest as well as the Prem with Derby.
But all in all a good challenge.
I've noted that there are some similar ones down the page. Fergie,Wenger, even Sam Allardyce and they've all got some interested parties. I guess this could also be extended into European football and further afield such as Trappatoni,Lippi,Herrera,Carlos Alberto. Or even further afeild with Shu Kamo and Li Yingfa
Imo the Cloughie challenge would be an awesome one.

This sounds like an excellent idea, but unfortunately may not work in FM07.
There seems to be a problem with job offers relating to reputation when you start at the bottom.
Fergie was a professional footballer, so that would work, Cloughie may even have been an International before he was injured, (unsure). Not sure about the likes of Shankley/Paisley.
Anyway, excellent idea, I just think that as a challenge it would be a struggle because of the lack of job offers.
If you set the reputation as an International footballer to avoid this, you are making the challenge too easy in the early stages.

ryanwxm - it depends on which manager you choose as to which leagues you have, for example with Clugh you would need just english leagues, but with ferguson you would need scottish aswell, and with robson you need spanish (for barcelona)
goonerjk - dont worry about adding your own ideas, all feedback is appreciated. I thought the Clough challenge would be awesome, although a little time-consuming, especially the Nottingham Forest part. Going abroad would be fine, but it is a case of finding thye achievements. A good way to do this would be to look at the FM hall of fame and go from there, judging who is a god, and who you want to emulate
Jimbokav1971 - I have heard about the problems with being offered jobs on fm07, so maybe fm06 would work? also, the challenge could be adapted/shortened, and maybe taken up in the later stages, for example just doing the Liverpool stage in the Shankley challenge, as this seems to me to be his most successful period, or with Clough just doing the Forest part of the challenge for example. As Sifrow says, Shankley was a professional footballer so that could work. Maybe just using ex-pro footballers as a basis for the challenge
Sifrow - The information provided is useful, and would help in deciding a manager to be in the challenge (personally I wouldnt pick ferguson but others may chhose to. It would involve me managing Man United, something I couldnt bring myself to do due to my disdain for them) but Id love to have a go at Shankley or Clough's careers
Thanks all for your feedback. If anybody would like to try the challenge then let me know, as I'm going to try it, experiment and see if its possible, and I will keep you updated on the progress, if there is any

Again it would depend on your own personal preference. There is no restriction on players who you can buy or anything so the database is entirely your choice

Sherm, I think this is a challenge that I would definitely try, but when I finish my career with Lokomotiv Sofia. I would love to emulate some of the greatest Bulgarian managers or my personal favourites Hidink and Del Bosque.
