Margate 07/08 Season Review
So, the first season is done and dusted, and in general it was a stroll.
Heres the
League Table:
Over 100 points, but i could of got 120 points had i not eased off at the end. Took me 30 games to lose for the first time but then lost 4 more times it the next 12.
So - the squad that got me there -
Squad
As you can see - its wafer thin, only 3 natural strikers, and ONE left back in the entire club.
Key Players:
Jon Maloney - Solid as a rock in defence but proved he can bang a few in also when used upfront.
James Donovan - Maloney's partner in the centre of defence and did a very good job. Will only get better.
Elliot Payne - 18 year old left winger who did really well, scored a fair share of goals and got 9 assists.
Lee Protheroe - Mainly used in the centre of midfield, but also used at right back. Techinically and mentally sound, the 34 yr old veteren was a key part of the side. Some great set peices and ended up with 16 assists.
Aaron Robinson - For 30 games was used as a right winger and had 7 goals, and was palying just averagely. Then, Ben Jackson picked up an injury and he was used upfront - he exploded into form and couldent stop scoring, with 11 goals in 12 games.
Ben Jackson - What a player. Scored 19 goals but also got a huge 23 assists, along with getting over 10 MOTM awards, by far my best player. Massive blow is that he is out for 5 months with a broken leg.
Danny Hockton - Quite simply a prolific striker. Shoots with power and also a brilliant penalty taker. Top scorer with 21 goals, which were all scored in his first 26 games. Didnt add to the total afterwards mainly thanks to injury.
Really hoping for some good youth to come through now to push on in the conference.
