I decided maybe I'd try one of the challenges, since I'm having such a hard time figuring out what to do. question is, are there any challenges where I can control a club and a nation? I get much more enjoyment out of managing both than just one or the other

You can in Ter's San Marino challenge, you can add two managers in that if you want, one managing the nation one managing the club.
