cheers Doctor Who.
Updates might be a bit erratic in the near future, moving and exams will do that

The Dong Cup 4th Division draw tied us up with fellow 1st division team
Herfølge at
Herfølge Stadion. It was a good team, but there was a reasonable chance that we could beat them. However I had about 4 days to make the decision and we had a home fixture against a very strong
Hvidovre side in 2 days. The league had to be my main priority though and I would definitely field the strongest possible XI against
Hvidovre.
At the monthly dinner among the backroom staff, this time it was a barbeque, and their wives Brian Kristensen assured me that the board was still pleased with their manager. However, I wouldn’t have expected him to say otherwise in front of Sara and his own wife who had become close friends.
Off course we had daily discussions about the general plight of Vejle Boldklub, but it was often in this relaxed athmosphere we got the detailed discussions. The dinners didn’t only serve as a social event, allthough that was an important part of it, they also served as a way for the staff to get a feel for where the club was going.
The dinners had become a tradition in recent years and they had turned out to be a valuable addition to the daily routines. Most of us spent hours together on a daily basis, but that was on a professional basis. This was where we really got to know each other.
After the dinner I told Anders Lohse to look around for young talented players. I was aware that this wasn’t the usual time of the season to do so, but I felt that we might gain an edge on the other times by taking another look at what was available. It was still early in the season, but I had already started to think about possible transfers during the winter break. The youth search might not exactly give us what we needed right now, but I had a strong youth policy and I wanted us to take a good look.
I had felt for quite a while that the coaching staff was spread a little thin, so I managed to convince
Brian to look around for a couple of good coaches. If we wanted to become the main supplier of Danish talent that was a part of the game where we had to be on top of things and at this point we weren’t.
After 3 minutes of the game
Hvidovre striker
Peter Rasmussen showed his intention to put and end to our good form, However,
Kern Lyhne and
Kenneth Knudsen put his effort to shame and the score was 2-1 in our favor. As
Kern Lyhne completed his hat-trick at the 30 minute mark it would take more than a miracle for
Hvidovre to get back into the game. During the break I had little to offer the players, so I encouraged them to carry on.
The 2nd half only offered 2 more goals, but that was enough to secure a hat trick for
Kenneth Knudsen as well. Our scout
Michael Lund had classified the
Hvidovre side as being “very strong,” that left me wondering whether he was a bad scout or if we were about to hit an amazing run of form. Either way there was very little that could spoil my mood after this prolific 6-1 win.
There was one thing though. After the game there was a fax waiting for me at my office. It was from the Danish PFA. They didn’t have any plans in store on the issue of players whose careers suddenly end or face an unexpected standstill. It wasn’t that they didn’t think the matter important, they just didn’t have the resources, however, they were willing to listen to any input that I or others might have on the subject.
That left me pondering on my next step. I didn’t know what to do about it right this moment, but I just couldn’t let it go.
I went into the
Herfølge game in two minds. I didn’t want to jeopardize the league for the cup, however, with the current form a win against
Herfølge might give us the opportunity to go up against a Superliga team in the 5th round. So I rested some of my first team regulars, the ones in the worst condition, and played with a mixed XI. The 1st half was a tight affair with neither team gaining the upper hand. We did create more chances, but we had fewer shots on target. At the end of the 1st half it was nigh impossible to predict a winner.
The 2nd half continued the way the 1st half had started and allthough
Herfølge had slightly more possession than us they were unable to make it count. In spite of
Herfølge’s extra possession we managed to produce 5 chances while they only had one, however, the game was in a deadlock and extra-time would be necessary.
Not even extra time was enough to prove a winnner and the match went to penalties.
Herfølge managed to clinch the match due to misses from
Lyhne and
Chris Sørensen. I told them not to be too concerned, the Dong Cup wasn’t our main priority after all. We just had to focus on the league now.
On the 6th and 7th of September we
Brian told me that he had signed 2 new coaches.
John Skovbjerg and
Denis Holmark respectively.
Skovbjerg was a coach with great tactical knowledge and tough disciplinarian who had an excellent grasp of young players.
Denis Holmark was slightly more focused on young players and he had a real knack for evaluating a players potential. I was really excited about these additions to the backroom staff. They were exactly the kind of coaches I felt we needed on the team.
I don’t know if it was the strain of the Dong Cup match or just a general lack of concentration, but the match against
Ølstykke didn’t start well. 7 minutes into the game
Mikkel Junge rose above
Mads Beierholm to send a powerful header past
Stig Olsen. That score remained throughout the game allthough we had been dominant. It was just one of those things where everything went against the run of play and I had to hope that lady luck would smile on us during the second half.
It was a second half in which lady luck’s favour proved fickle.
Jerry Brown managed to score a magnificent equalizer with less than 30 minutes on the clock, but as we were chasing the winning goal
Nicolai Lund bagged a low shot with 5 minutes to go. After the goal
Ølstykke put all their efforts on defense and grabbed 3 points in a game we should have won.
After the
Ølstykke game we needed to get back on track and
Jerry Brown proved to be the on form striker. He earned his Hat-trick by bagging 3 goals within the 30 minute mark.
Nicolai Damgaard Pedersen did his best to instill a sense of hope in the
Randers Freja squad as he scored from a header after 37 minutes. However,
Tommy Schram shut them down 2 minutes later on a rebound drive. That put us ahead by 4 goals to 1 with 45 minutes to go.
The second half continued in the same manner as the 1st half and both
Anders Nordstrøm and
Tommy Schram added another goal to their account, however his hat-trick secured
Jerry Brown the MOM award. The result propelled us to 9th in the table, still far from our goal, but close enough to start taking part in the promotion battle.
