Welcome to the Russian Revolution and to Spartak London Celtic, Mister Jones
28th June, 2007
“Now you must understand that vee expect immediate promotion this year, and for zat matter next year as vell28th June, 2007” flatly stated Spartak London Celtic Chairman and owner Igor Gusev.
Grinning, I replied “Your wish is my command boss, so going back to our discussion on players; I’m not allowed one Englishman in my squad?”
“See Mister Jones, you are not allowed en Englishman, Scotsman, Thai-man or German - only Russians. Zis is our chance to conquer England and I hope you are up to zee job, Mister Jones, for there are plenty of other employable people out their who vud love to take part in zis experiment.
“But of course I believe in you, Mister Jones, and, as it is a newly founded club, you must buy all of ze players for zis season”
“And what about-” I replied before Igor cut across me.
“- Do not worry about transfer money, my friend, zat is one compartment zat I am very comfortable with – ve vill fully back you as you vill need to bring in about sixty Russians for our three respective teams this year”.
“Hold on – three teams?”
“Yes, sorry, I forget to explain this to you on the phone, Spartak Celtic is our main team and vill compete en ze Blue Square North but ve have clearance for a second team, Spartak Celtic B, to compete en ze Blue Square South.
“And finally, a Spartak Celtic Under-23’s team vill compete in ze Russian First Division so zey can get first team experience and it vill maintain our ties vit Russia.
“Eh okay……. and do you want me to manage each team?” I replied getting slightly worried.
“No of course not, Mister Jones, you can employ a Russian to take charge of each team and one as your assistant to the first team.
“Now, as I have many important contacts in Moscow, I am very pleased to declare zat ve vill have CSKA, Spartak, Dinamo and Torpedo Moscow as parent clubs to us, and we can loan players each year – benefiting both teams.”
“But ze club iz in your hands now Ryan Jones, and vit a transfer budget of 25 million euros, I hope you can bring plenty of success to zis club. Welcome to the Russian Revolution and to Spartak London Celtic, Mister Jones.”

Gusev Appoints Irish Boss for Russian Roulette Igor Gusev, a self-made Russian Billionaire, has appointed Ryan Jones as manager of Spartak London Celtic for the forthcoming Blue Square North season. Irishman Jones is entering his first season as a first-team boss after previous spells as a youth coach with Shelbourne and Luton and last season as the reserve manager at Paul Jewell’s Wigan.

Welcome to the Russian Revolution and to Spartak London Celtic, Mister Jones Post #3
On my first day a board meeting was held at the brand new Stadia Celtic, which is a 20,000 all-seater, and Gusev made it clear that he wants to see it filled on a regular basing in the near future.
My first impression of Igor Gusev is that of a wealthy business tycoon who is accustomed to success and victory and certainly this season anything but a handy Blue Square North title (and a South title for my ‘B’ team) would be unacceptable from his point of view.
In his mid-forties, Gusev began his ‘experiment’ early on in the year when he set up Spartak Celtic Under-23’s in the Russian First Division while waiting for clearance to set up a club under the same name in the British capital.
He informed me that a good friend of his, Yury Kovtun would be an ideal candidate for the role of my assistant manager, as he is fluent in both English and Russian; he is capped 47 times for Russia and has many friends and useful links in the country.
Regarding the hunt for new players, Gusev added that I would be travelling on a flight to Moscow that evening to meet up with Kovtun in his home in Moscow and to begin recruiting a team capable of winning the league this year.
We were expected to travel around Russia, picking up players with ambition of playing in England and we also had a huge appeal to the younger players with the fact that they could continue to live in Russia if they were to play in our U-23 team in the second tier of Russian Football.
