Just one of many ways. However, you won't get any performance gain in FM by upgrading your graphics card.
I've just replaced my old 2.4Ghz P4 and it ran FM2007 very well undeed with a large database, so I'm surprised that you struggle with minimal settings on a PC that has a CPU 1Ghz faster than I did until only a fortnight ago. For the record, it had 756Mb RAM. </BLOCKQUOTE>
That little bit of extra of RAM is really important. I have a program now that gives you the option to free up RAM, so I do it every now and then, and it helps the game to keep running smoothly. If I allow the RAM use to build up too much, it starts going into the Virtual Memory, which is slower. RAM can also be freed up by simply rebooting, but that's a hassle.
By the way, FM 2007 was considerably faster on my PC than FM 2008.
Thank you for the tip regarding the "dxdiag". Trouble is, I can't identify the graphics card on the list. But since you say that won't improve performance, then it doesn't matter.
