It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default How can I stop balls going over the top of my Centre Backs?

This game is getting annoying, I designed a pretty solid 4-4-2 pre patch but now post patch the damn thing is useless.

I've been tiinkering about but can't seem to defend at all, and with Craig Bellamy not being able to hit a horses arse with a banjo (he couldn't stop scoring pre patch), it's not a good base for success, not scoring but conceding!!!

The thing is I'm trying to design a solid 4-4-2 again, but my players just don't seem to adhere to my instructions. My two Centre Backs, Gabbidon and Ferdinand just seem to spend the entire match chasing a striker because yet again a ball has been punted over the top.

Now I'm fortunate some of the time that they are quick, but I can't understand it. They are on as defensive a settings as you can get. Ultra Defensive, Short Passing, No Forward Runs, No Run With Ball and Close Down in Own Area. The only thing slightly attacking about them is that I set my defensive line as "normal" because I don't want my Centre Backs too far from everyone else. But surely that doesn't make the sit on the halfway line does it???

What should I do? A deeper defensive line? Barrows on the two Centre Backs? I'm stumped, please help...

Are you tightmarking? If not maybe try using the offside trap.

Hi Sussex Hammer,

For the DCs only, mentality has no positional effect this year, so even though their mentality is set to ultra-defensive they shouldn't play any deeper.

As far as I can tell the only thing that will deepen the two DCs is by lowering the defensive line.

Not tight marking and I already play the offside trap.

I use man marking with my centre backs. Tried zonal but that was utter carnage.

Lawman,,, has mentaality got no effect this year due to any reason or just that nothing actually works properly in the game this year?

The game is absolutely useless at the moment. I have been experimenting playing the same game 20 times to see how many different outcomess would occur.

Ended up being beaten 9 times, winning 7 and drawing the rest. Considering I am playing as Celtic AT HOME to Motherwell using tactics that had worked to achieve me a draw agaist Sevilla away from home - I find this incredible.

3 of the defeats, I was beaten 4-1, 4-0 and 5-1!!!

Now come on - there is deffo something weird about that!

Defenders don't do what they are told, simple high balls up the park seem to cause havoc! Jusst so many bugs...

Personally I will not play the game again until a new update or 2 have been created to make the game actually playable.

I think it officially has no positional effect.

So you may as well have them both on all out attack and you won't see any difference?!

Why's it weird? don' mean to offend you or sound too blunt but your tactics probably just isn't good enough to begin with. Especially if you are resarting the game etc and your luck isn' changing. There are problems with the game still, but most of what people writen about over the last few weeks are mistakes on there behalf as they dont trully understand what they are doing. I believe you fall into this catergory.

As for saying the game is unplayable lets stop exaggerating shall we.

Lower than Creativity, then they will follow what you said. (mentality ultra defense).

Otherwise, no matter what you tell them, they're going to make their own decision.

1/ Try a deeper defensive line with your back four all set on rarely close down.

2/ Use direct passing on them (I dunno, are they good passers? I use a league 2 side so I want them to hump it up)

3/ Don't play offside against teams with fast strikers with good off the ball.

4/ Who is providing the through balls? The AMC? Set a DM/CM to close down on them.

5/ I don't really like man marking because a good striker will drag out the CB all over the place leaving gaps behind.

6/ Try soaking up the pressure with a defensive team mentality (especially away) and hit them back with a direct counter attacking plan.

I'm using Swansea so my players are much worse than yours and most teams come to me to try to score so might be a different but I hope that helps!
