Planet Stevenage : Where Putting The Ball Into The Net Seems A Struggle

Fans of Stevenage, fans of the Boro its been a bit of a frustrating couple of sessions at camp Stevenage, we dominate our opponents completely and just struggle to find the back of the net, why I don't, how to conquer it.......well thats another good question!

Anyway, plenty of exciting action!

Premiership

Down by the Riverside to play : Middlesborough

Once more a frustrating game for moi the manager, a game that we saw three easy points last season saw us only get a point this time around despite us enjoying complete domination, but once again despite making a hundred and one chances, they just cant put it into the back of the net, why does it happen to me? Final Score : Middlesborough 1 -1 Stevenage Juliusson

Uefa Cup

Visiting Broadhall Way is : Gent AA

Its time for the Uefa Cup! Our first season in the clubs history and we've done extremely well in it already with progressing via the Inter Toto Cup and beating some very top class opponents. It was time for the first round and we got given a tough draw against Belgium side AA Gent. Well we very much enjoyed overall possession and it was a suprise the score line was kept so low, more "world class" keepers for the opponent and our strikers must just be getting so frustrated. Anyway, it was pacey Slovenian striker Borut Semler who gave us the lead and that effort was followed up by the man who, no one else but captain Juliusson with a cracking 30 yard piledriver. Final Score : Stevenage 2 - 0 Gent AA Juliusson, Semler

Premiership

Visiting Broadhall Way is : Blackburn

Rovers havnt been doing at all lately and its a game I expected maximum points from too, well the lads delivered but it did take till the second half despite a handful of chances going close with every part of the goal being hit apart from the back of the net! But finally it was the swedish youngster and brazillian wonderkid who brought home the bounty and relieve some of that stress! Final Score : Stevenage 2 - 0 Blackburn Lindqvist, Silva-Viera

Visiting Molineuxl to play : Wolves

I swear they do it on purpose, having thrashed Wolves last season and enjoying complete domination in this game too and looking on course to thrash them once more.....they miss a thousend chances infront of goal and then out of the blue, Wolves somehow get a goal from their first ever shot on goal! Just typical, bloody game, just does my head at stupid times like this! We did get a goal eventually, Semler was the one who broke free from the Wolves defence to deliver the goods. Final Score :Wolves 2 - 1 Stevenage Semler

Visiting Broadhall Way is : QPR

Its going from bad to worse in the league at the moment, teams that we completely thrashed last season, and dominate all over this season too are getting points off us for no good damn reason at all. There is nothing much but dominating a game anyone can do, for some reason we cant score more than one goal, we got very talented strikers who definately know where the net is but the ball for some odd reason doesnt end up in the net. The score line doesnt reflect anything in this game apart from that QPR had as many shots as they had goals, which is absolutely zilch!Final Score : Stevenage 0 - 0 QPR

Uefa Cup

Visiting Belgium For A Beer Trip & to Play : AA Gent
1st Leg : 1-1
2nd leg

Well its time for us to complete the first round of the Uefa Cup with us travelling to Belgium for some Chocolates and Beer.......to celebrate a fine victory of course. They did play a lot better in this leg than they did the first but still it wasnt good enough to get too near our goal. Despite the strikers missing hatful of chances it was Portugese international Marco Ferreira who struck a sweet low shot past the helpless keeper to bring us into the second round! Final Score : AA Gent 0 - 1 Stevenage Ferreira

Visiting Ashburton Grove to Play : La Gunners

We didnt perform aswell in the first half as we have done in previous games and the Gunners did enjoy some very nice space with the ball and got their goal. But the second half was all us, we were shooting at the Arsenal goal like a firing range, but we only got rewarded once which was amazing considering how many chances we had at the end of the game. Final Score : Arsenal 1 - 1 Stevenage Hidalgo

League Cup 3rd Round

Visiting Broadhall Way is : Wolves

Well as tradition goes, when domestic cup comes round the reserves get a nice day out to amuse themselves, today they did that in style an all. Wolves with a very strong eleven out including the likes of Miller and Chopra looked favourites to win this but to a suprise, our reserves played them off the park completely and it was the two youngest players on the park for us that scored the goals. Gibson got the ball rolling with a fierce 35 yard strike and then McDonaldo went round three helpless Wolves defender to slot it past the keeper and into the bottom right corner Final Score : Stevenage 2 - 0 Wolves Gibson, McDonald

Premiership

Visiting Broadhall Way is : Man City

What a superb game it was, finally for some reason we started scoring an all which really made me happy for a chance cos we just seem to keep missing so many great chances week in week out. The Citeh defence just couldnt cope with the pace we put out and it was funny watching them trying to keep up with both Semler and Rommedahl who just flew down the wing to setup some fantastic efforts. Final Score : Stevenage 4 - 0 Man City Rommedahl, Queudrue, Ferreira, Semler

Uefa Cup

Visiting Broadhall Way is : M.Netanya

Arghhh!!! What have we done to deserve this, just as things were getting better with a cracking victory over Citeh we just cant score again! We hit the bar twice and each post too. It seemed that superman has flown in to help the Israeli side keep a clean sheet! All to do in the away leg now but it should have been at least 5-0 and over in this first leg, very disappointing to say the least.Final Score : Stevenage 0 - 0 N.Metanya

Premiership

Visiting Villa Park to Play : Aston Villa

Its getting worse and worse, the frustration is really at a max, after completely walking all over Villa they suddenly score from no where! Yes you guessed it, we still hadnt scored and it was more of a mystery to why we hadn't managed it, need to call in a Priest, its a curse I swear it is!! However, the come back kings tag was tied around our neck as delight was brought to my face after a very frustrating game, it was young midfielder McDonald who levelled things before a 90th min corner came to seal the fate for Villa, a rare good cross was delivered which Hidalgo headed into the near post to bring home the three points! Final Score : Aston Villa 1 - 2 Stevenage Hidalgo, McDonald

Visiting Broadhall Way is : Norwich

It was time to play Wayne's Assistant, the assistant won the first division and has taken Norwich to a great league position in the top 4, if we win, we'd leap frog them into the champions league spot. Norwich enjoyed some chances infront of goal and were close to scoring, however the score line was kept so low due to of course "the curse". I brought Poole into the squad to see if it is the strikers that are causing the problem but it didnt make it any better or worse, thankfully after having beat the offside trap on numerous ocassions, Poole broke free to slot it home cooly. Final Score : Stevenage 1 - 0 Norwich Poole

A very frustrating time at the moment for me, dominating games completely against our opposition but for some reason the lads just cant put it in the back of the net...........then it just gets followed up by the AI getting one shot in and scoring. Its difficult to see what needs changing, cos everything is going perfect apart from the chances just not going in for some odd reason!

CAN UNITED DO AN ARSENAL AND REMAIN UNBEATEN?????? LETS JUST CONCENTRATE ON WINNING THE LEAGUE EH!!!!!!

Man Utd really need to make sure that they can hold on to top spot in the premier League with West Ham the current holders not letting up for one minute. Coming into the next lot of games Man Utd are still unbeaten in the league. Here are the results for this evening sessions:

Q.P.R v Man Utd, Premiership

This was a very tight game in which Man Utd were matched in all areas of the game. Mark Viduka and Marc Bircham were a handful for the visitors and Bircham scored in the 61st minute to give Q.P.R the lead. They then both had chances to the game beyond Man Utd but failed to do so. It was Ronaldo in the 65th minute with a contender for goal of the season on a 50 yard run and finish who got Man Utd back in it. Man Utd left it late to take all three points but did in the end through Freddie Kanoute

FT 1 - 2

Man utd v Arsenal, Premiership

Two goals from Van Der Vaart and Van Nistelrooy within 5 minutes were enough for Man Utf to walk away with a victory over there old enemies Arsenal. The Gunners did manage to nick a goal but they left it right till the 93rd minute which ment the game was virtuall over

FT 2 - 1

Man City v Man Utd

A hostile reception for Gray on his return to the City of Manchester Stadium and the visit of his Manchester United Squad. A game that is taken very serious by both sides saw Man Utd on Championship form. Man of The Match, Van Der Vaart, scored a massive 6 goals in a game where he ran the city defence ragged. The other goals were contributed by Kanoute, Govou and Kluivert. Van Der Vaart also had a hand in one of the other goals he didn't score. Nine goals in total for Gray on his return to City and you can imagine how it made the City fans feel, especially on home soil.

FT 0 - 9

Man Utd v Aston Villa

A brace for Sidney Govou was enough to seal victorie for Man Utd and help guide them to a 15 Game unbeaten run in the premiership. It was a game that was quite dull at times but Aston Villa never had a look in. A deserved clean sheet for Bartez

FT 2 - 0

Norwich v Man Utd, Premiership

Goals from Berry and Sarr we good enough to see Norwich nick a point from Man Utd. Nowrich took the Lead then goals from Kanoute and Govou put Utd ahead only to be piped by a goal from Sarr. Gray was said to be foaming with his defence as both goals we conceeded from corners. He will want to see an improvement in weeks to come

FT 2 - 2

Man Utd v Burton Albion, League Cup 4th Round

Another Carlin Cup game and another game for Man Utd Reserves. A game that was very slow paced and Burton never looked to get in the game. A pen from Neil Armstrong and another goal from the 15 year old kid Daly was enough for the old trafford outfit.

FT 2 - 0

Man Utd v Chelsea, Premiership

Van Der Vaart opened the scoring for Utd in the first half but the game never looked out of chelseas reach as they were putting pressure on Man Utd's back four and Were lucky not to get an equaliser through Hernan Crespo only minutes later. The turning point in this game came when Van Nistlerooy who had a poor game and was replaced by Frenchman Kanoute who run the defence into the ground and grabbed himself a hattrick. Should almost gaurentee him his first team place nect week.

FT 4 - 0

Can we find the form to get our season going?

15 Nov 08 Wycombe (a)

A team that were below us in the league, surly we could get a win here?

Think again…. we were so poor it was unreal. We take an early lead after 5 minutes but are soon pegged back after 9 minutes. The lads have hit a brick wall and so have I buy the looks of it, no matter what we do we cant seem to get 2 wins together.

End Result… Wycombe win 3-1
Scorers Collins
MoM Barnes Wycombe 8/10

22 Nov 08 Gravesend (h)

After our very poor performances a small crowd of 5,390 turn up to watch us play the league leaders. It starts to get bad as soon as we kick of as we go a goal behind after 2 minutes from a break on the left hand side of the pitch see’s our defence at sixes and sevens for the cross into the box for Carson to put the ball away.
Yet another scorer for Gravesend (White) see’s him score for us tho after 3 minutes.
We get 2 very quick goals 14th and 17th minutes to start to make the lads feel at ease with the game, but Powell had made the attack on the wing with the ball, cut inside the defender and fired home a long shot that went under the keeper’s body to make the score at ½ time 3-2

The second part of the match the lads just went for it and came away with their best result of the season. 2 more goals had made the game safe and giving us a much needed win.

End Result… PNE win 5-2
Scorers og 3rd min, Shaw 14,66, Robinson 17, Fuller 54
MoM Shaw PNE 10/10

26 Nov 08 Swansea (a)

Thomas does the damage to us tonight he gets 2 goals 18th and 33rd minutes to really put the skids under our team. We do get a goal back from Shaw 87th min but its to late to do any damage

End Result… Swansea win 2-1
Scorers Shaw 87th minute
MoM Shaw PNE 9/10

29 Nov 08 Barnet (h)

Ok I know it sounds mad but we are only 12 points of the play off places but more worrying for us is that we are 3 points of relegation. We do need to get a winning run started pretty soon or we could find ourselves in a fight at the bottom of the league.

We had put Barnet to the sword today as we knocked in five goals to their none.It seems that a partnership is forming with the 2 strikers as they both get on the score sheet.
The defence seemed to be gaining in confidence as the game wore on, and were starting to pass the ball about a bit. In midfield I moved Shaw to the wing and got Yahiaoui into the centre and he ran the game with 3 assists.

End Result… PNE win 5-0
Scorers Fuller 15th min, Arthur 35th, 37th, Brenne 47th, 50th
MoM Yahiaoui PNE 10/10

Awards
Ok we might not have set the town alight with our play of the season so far but just of late young Shaw has been playing out of his skin to get us going in the right direction. He gets from the players committee player of the month for Nov and the goal of the month aswell.
I just hope this can spur on the players as for his efforts he gets to miss training for a week.

13 Dec 08 Brighton (a)

This game feels like a knitting pattern you win one, you lose one, you win one, you lose one. As you can guess we have losted yet again.

We thought we might have taken a point home with us but a poor defensive error from the back 5 had seen us let in a goal in the 65th minute to Janse.

End Result… Brighton win 1-0
MoM Ashton 8/10

More to follow…
