Herr Bohl, 47, has never managed in the top flight before but he has a track record of coaching youth, under-19 and reserve teams throughout Germany. The U21’s achieved some success under his guidance and he is seen as a skilled coach adept at spotting and developing talented youngsters. How he will cope with the egos at “FC Hollywood” remains to be seen but he will need all of his man-management skills if he is to succeed in his new position.

July 25th 2001 - A Season Of Glory For FC Bayern?
With the first round of games in the Bundesliga just three days away what does this season have in store for FC Bayern München under their new manager Adolf Bohl? Well the new man has no shortage of talent at his disposal but how well will he be able to deploy their skills? Herr Bohl is not a high-profile manager with a track record of success, so how will his new charges react? Will they give the new man time to prove himself or will player-power result in failure on the pitch? Only time will tell and the demands of a success-hungry set of supporters is such that this commodity may be in short supply. There is no doubt that his side have the quality to succeed. In Oliver Kahn they have one of the best goalkeepers in the world even if his private life is sometimes a little colourful! Croatian Robert Kovac is a very assured and cultured central defender and the French pairing of Bixente Lizarazu and Willy Sagnol are talented wingbacks. There is plenty of quality in midfield with the likes of Michael Ballack, Mehmet Scholl, Hasan Salihamidzic, Zé Roberto and Alexander Zickler. Jens Jeremies and Nico Kovac add some steel to the side and Élber is a quality striker. With youngsters such as Owen Hargreaves, Roque Santa Cruz, Sebastian Deisler and Claudio Pizarro waiting in the wings there are also positive signs for the future.
July 28th 2001 – Comfortable Opener For Bayern FC Bayern shrugged off the disappointment of losing out in the League Cup and started their league campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win at Bielefeld. Despite not looking fully match-fit Bayern were still far too good for their opponents. Hasan Salihamidzic, Alexander Zickler and Michael Ballack were all impressive, each getting on the scoresheet in the first half. Élber added the 4th after the break as Bayern underlined their dominance.

The impressive early season form of FC Bayern continues with a crushing 6-0 defeat of Wolfsburg in Munich. August 11th 2001 – Brave Nürnberg Hold Bayern
A battling performance by Nürnberg saw them hold visiting FC Bayern to a 1-1 draw. Élber opened the scoring for Bayern midway through the first half but Nürnberg hit back immediately though Martin Driller as Oliver Kahn failed to collect a cross. The game developed into a duel between Élber and Simeunovic with the Slovenian keeper coming out on top as he denied the Brazilian with a series of fine stops.

Adolf Bohl switched his team’s formation to a 4-4-2 lineup for this game to mirror their opponents. Herr Bohl said after the game that he felt that this would serve to nullify much of Liverpool’s midfield threat and his switch of tactics worked well. Didi Hamman was a peripheral figure for the English side, being substituted in the second half, and the Bayern defence kept Michael Owen quiet throughout.
August 29th 2001 – Élber Scores Four In Cup
Brazilian striker Élber scored all four of FC Bayern’s goals as they comfortably beat non-league VfB Leipzig in the 1st round of the German Cup. Such was the visitor’s dominance that they could easily have doubled their score as they spurned chance after chance. As comprehensive as their victory was, manager Adolf Bohl will hope that their accuracy in front of goal will improve as the season progresses.

With 62 minutes on the clock 1860 took the lead with a breakaway goal from new signing Davor Suker, his 4th goal in 6 appearances. With less than 15 minutes remaining the Bayern pressure finally told as Zé Roberto scored the equaliser. The home side had to weather further intense pressure but managed to hold on for a very satisfactory draw.
