With only one pre-season game, a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Swiss side Sion, it might be said we were ill-prepared for the new season. Truth was, we didn't have time to prepare many matches, and so we would just have to learn as we went along. Hopefully that wouldnt take too long, and with only a mid-table finished expected there shouldnt be too much pressure on us. The ligue season itself got underway with a visit to Pau, our first real chance to see what the side was made of. Sorry to say, it seems they're not made of much as we went down by a goal to nil. Not the perfect start. Romorantin at home gave us the chance to get some points on the board, but with just ten minutes played the visitors were ahead. I wouldnt say I was overly worried at this point, but then I am a damn good liar. Thats my French origins coming to the fore. The early set back took a while to overcome, but a minute from time Ernst Atis-Clothaire found the net, and just seconds later Christophe Rossignol made it 2-1. Seven minutes after the restart Regis Castant made it 3-1, but there was bad new on the hour as Laurent Strzelczak got himself sent off, and with six minutes left Lahcen Chakir had to go off injured. Still, we had won the match and that was the main thing. We would not end up with 'nil point'. Entente Sannois Saint Gratien is another one of those French sides with a very long name. Sign writers in the country make an absoluite fortune off the football clubs, and actively encourage amalgamations. Our name being longer though, we were to win with a 61st minute Rolland Vieira goal, but I think it was more that we were the better side if truth be told.
Six points from nine was a decent start, but it wasnt to continue. A home match with US Royenne turned out to be an anti climax for our 821 loyal supporters, as neither side could find their way to the goal and the match ended nil all. Regis Castant joined our ever growing injury list. Yet if the match with Roye was simply alésage, at Tours were simply affligeant, as we crashed b 2-0, and a 1-0 home loss to Cherbourg confirmed what most of already knew, that we would not be in the promotion hunt this season.
Aout ended with with a trip to Valenciennes, and here we finally had a good game. Rossignal opened the scoring on 38 minutes, as his cross from right on the byeline somehow ended up in the back of the net, with the player claiming that he meant it. Of course, he was lying. He is French. Just before the halftime, the home side were level, but their joy was to last only 13 minutes into the second half when Atis-Clothaire restored our lead. Guillaume Sabourin added a 3rd seven minutes from the end, and all in a much improved performance.
Amd so a month in which we crammed in seven leagues matches, sees us lie 11th in the table after some mixed performances. There are signs that our season can go either way at the moment, but hopefully the win in Vallenciennes will encourage the players to realise they can do well, if they just put their minds to it.

I'm offended cos you were talking to me and you know I'm not offended unless you're pretending I'm easily offended in which case I'd be stupid and that would be offensive. | |

Rep Power: 0 | Septembre 2004 Racing Club de Paris 92 were our next opponents, at home. Goals were hard to come by as we reached the halfway mark without any. One minute after the break thiugh, Guillaume Sabourin sent us into a deserved lead against stubborn resistance. Rolland Vieira added a second just before the hour, and in the final minute Racing's Daniel-Francois Bocande was red carded, but the match was already settled.
Away to Valence, a 4th minute strike from Mohamed Benaissa sent us ahead early, but although we were the dominant team, it wasnt till the 79th minute when we scored again. A bizzare effort, as four of our players found themselves alone in the area with the Valence keeper, as their defence decided to trot back to the halfway line in a very poor effort to play offside I expect. The ball was cut back to Rolland Vieira who sent it into the empty net with the poor keeper stranded. Eric Farro scored for Valence a minute later, but it wasnt enough and we held on for another excellent win. Nimes at home would be our 4th win in a row if we could pull it off. In the end, a highly dissapointing performance from us, but we did win thanks to an Own Goal from Nimes' Jean Marie Pasqualetti. Nimes were reduced to 10 men with eleven minutes left to play, but we couldnt take advantage. Still, a win's a win.
Away to Bayonne and another goalless first 45 minutes. Just after the break the home side were ahead, and then with 15 minutes to play Sebastien Socie decided to throw the ball into his own net. Christophe Rossigol got a consolation goal for us as our run came to an end. It was dissapointing, but we cant win them all.
At home to Raon-l'Etape, the visitors took the lead after 5 minutes. We seemed to be struggling to find form, and a 47th minute injury to Pascal Theze didnt help our cause. Slowly though we got to grips with the match, and on the hour Vieira was on target once more. Benaissa grabbed the winner on the 79th minute, and we breathed a sigh of relief.
After 12 matches, we lie in 4th place, four points behind the 3rd promotion place occupied by Cannes. Its been a decent enough start, and we have been helped by the fact most of our opponents have been fairly incompetant, as we certainly havent been playing well. But then again, when we do start playing well, the rest are in trouble.....

Moving into Octobre, and if we could just find a little bit more consistancy, our good league position would soon enough become an excellent one. A visit to the side I had spent most of my playing career with, Rouen was quite emotional for me and I was recieved with good grace by the home support. Even if they did want me to be on the losing side this time. Rolland Vieira seemed to like playing at the Stade Robert Diochon too, as he fired in a great hattrick and we came away with a superb 3-1 win over the side who last season had been in Ligue 2.
Table topping Sete were our next match at home, and in as a tight a match as you would expect between two sides on form, Guillaume Sabourin's 4th minute goal was enough to give us the points. Suddenly, it seemed our promotion push really did have to be taken seriously, but there was still a very long way to go. It could still all go very much wrong.
Away to GFCO Ajaccio, and Christophe Rossignol sent us into the lead after just six minutes as our good mini run threatened to continue. Ajaccio were level though on 19 minutes, and ten minutes from time they took the lead, and it seemed that our run was over. It wasnt though, as Rossignol made it his day with a fine second, 2 minutes from time, and still we continued to bamboozle the media.
There was a danger though that our expectations might rise too high, that we might end up being very dissapointed. No-one at the club had expected promotion this season, but so far we were right in there. The longer we stayed in there, the higher everyone's hopes would be, the more dissapointing it would be if we eventually failed. Cannes were another decent team come to stop our run, but they couldnt handle Vieira who was on fine form as he rattled in another hattrick and almost single handedly won us the match. Mohamed Benaissa though was also on the scoresheet with our 4th in a fantastic 4-1 win that moved us to heady heights of 2nd place. This was dreamland central.
Our final match of the month at Besancon saw us twice fall behind, and twice Vieira pulled us level. The draw was our sixth match unbeaten, and leaves us 2nd behind Sete in what is turning into a very close and exciting title race as we near the halfway point. French National November 1

When this season began, I certainly hadnt expected to be a team in the middle of a promotion race come the halfway stage of the season. And neither did the media. Indeed, they now said that although our current run was excellent, we should enjoy it while it lasts, as that wont be forever. I cant really disagree with that belief. Croix de Savoie, another team heavily involved in this tense promotion battle, were our next opponents at home, and when they took the lead after just 15 minutes, the sound of bubbles bursting and bottles breakening was deafening. Three minutes after the break though, defender Francois Marque headed home a corner for his first ever senior goal, and we were level again. The goal inspired us, and even though Guillaume Sabourine was red carded on 55 minutes, Benaissa and Rossignol both got on the scoresheet as we secured another valuable win. Not though before Marque decided to cancel out his own effort five minutes from time, and make the score look closer than it was.
Successive away matches against mid table Wasquehal and struggling Romorantin would be a test of our credentials, and by the narrowest of margins we came through both. To be fair, at Wasquehal Regis Castant did miss and 8th minute penalty, and it took a Laurent Pichon own goal on 49 minutes to give us the win. They all count though, and I'll take results like this any day. At Romorantin it was Mohamed Benaissa who got the only goal, and the month ended we sat proudly atop the National.
The Coupe de France 7th round saw us travel to CFA side US Forbach. Such games can be potentially tricky, but a professional performance saw us run out 7-0 winners, three players bagging braces. The draw for the 8th round sees us with a much tougher assignment as we got to Ligue 2 Laval. It will be an interesting test of how far the side can go.......
