"Undesired" Extensis Menu listing Post #1 | | Guest | "Undesired" Extensis Menu listing
Hi all.
I've just installed an Extensis demo plug-in only to find it has created its own menu on the menu bar. It's already in the filters section so is far from necessary.
Do all plug-in brands do this, or is it a special privilege only afforded to Extensis.
Also, can it be removed? I've already removed the demo, but if I install another plug-in that I decide to purchase, I don't want it in the menu bar when there's a perfectly good filters menu.
Thanks.
Sark

Hi Sark-
Every other third party plug in that I've used does indeed confine itself to the filters menu. That's not to say that they're aren't ones that do (which I'm sure others will point out...!)
I remember Extensis doing that, it didn't bother me a whole lot since there were a lot of options that went with it, but I understand not wanting new menus added when you don't need one!
I wouldn't be afraid of adding plug-ins to try them out, as you pointed out you can remove them if the interface bugs you (but as I said, I haven't run into another plug-in that behaved that way).
Have fun!
Tim

hmmm...
Nice grammar in that first paragraph [righton]
Of course what I meant to say was that all of the third party plug-ins I've used (apart from Extensis) show up in the filters menu, will Extensis was the only one that created it's own menu (though that doesn't mean there aren't other plug-ins that will create their own menu).
Ah, that reads much better!

*its* own menu (it's is an abbrev. for "it is")
sorry, you asked for it [:I
I guess you're talking about that plug-in to create selections (MaskPro or something like that). To get rid of that menu I'm afraid you will have to uninstall the plug-in.

Actually they only did that with their older plugins; specifically the Extensis Toolbar. And with that one it's understandable that they created their own menu. It needed it i thought.
They don't do that with any of their newer stuff.
And i've also never seen any other plugin do this either. So i wouldn't be concerned about that.

Eric, & theKeeper... The demo was Intellihance. It came on the PS7 disc. Don't know if that's considered old or new, but there was no need for the items in the new menu to be listed as there was a drop down list of the same items in the Intellihance window.
It's good to know it's not a common occurence however.
Thanks for the replies.

"Undesired" Extensis Menu listing Post #8 | | Guest | "Undesired" Extensis Menu listing Sark,
For what it's worth, in the old days of Extensis plugins, that extra menu was handy to access all the diverse elements of their plugs as theKeeper mentioned. I still think if you were to use Intellihance regularly, the Extensis menu would be handy.

Hi miaeow and welcome to the forums!
Extensis is a software company known for Portfolio, and Suitcase in addition to their image manipulation products. In the past they had an excellent set of plugins for Photoshop, many of which were made obsolete by Styles and vector tools which became available as PS has evolved. Currently, the only ones I use in PS CS, and rarely at that, are Photoframe and Intellihance. http://www.extensis.com/en/products/creative_tools.jsp | |
