But Brian wasn't ready to retire, not just yet. Opportunities in management were multiple, with clubs panicking just in time for the transfer window. Derby, Charlton, Leicester, Bristol City, Sunderland, Stevenage, Morecambe, BPA and Hinckley all advertised in the following week, but only one of these tempted Clough.
In rejecting Bristol City Brian was laying all his cards on the table. It was Derby or bust. Without the County job, this was it. Brian Clough was finished.

With Derby appointing QPR boss David Penney to the top job it was time for Brian to lay it all aside. He retired to a house outside Nottingham and enjoyed three weeks of happiness with his family before he was murdered by Neale Cooper.

I think not, this was always going to be the end and was set up from very early in the story. Try reading it before coming up with gibberish.
