Pre-Season:

FMS 4 - 0 Enfield

A dazzling display for the new conference side, they demolished there fellow non-leaguers thanks to a Binny brace and goals from Furnivall and BobBev.

FMS 0 - 1 Preston

A performance full of spirit and heart from the lads, but the first division side scraped past us in this friendly at the Gronigen. Big Dave Manson was the man who made the breakthrough, chopping down David Healy in the FMS Penalty Area, and the Northern Irish striker picked himself up to slot the ball passed the flailing Euan Alexander in the FMS goal. All credit to the lads who aquitted themselves sublimely for the first hour or so, but after the penalty it was all Preston and FMS never looked like getting back into the game.

August 2001

What. A. Month. The little team based on a forum who no-one thought could do anything, tops the table after their first 4 matches. Many an offer has come in for the current stars of non-league football, but Manager Nick Dunmore has remained firm. Heres a break down of Augusts results and news:

18th August

Dag and Red 3 - 5 FMS

Despite the scoreline, Fms dominated this game from start to finish. PM7 and Raptor couldn't get starts, the former not even in the match squad. Instead, Flipsix3 and Binny were the first choice front two and this decision paid off big time. The first goal came from a Flipsix3 corner, which floated towards Binny at the far post, who obliged by tucking his free header into the back of the net. The second was a carbon copy of the first, except Binny found himself at the near post this time. And this after just 5 minutes.

Dagenham hit back thanks to Danny Hill whp weaved his way through 3 FMS defenders before slotting it past the hapless Dark Soccer. Most players were thinking about their half time energy drinks when Flippers toe poked another Furnivall cross into the far corner to leave the visitors comfortbale at the break.

Simon turned form provider to scorer after the break with a searing bolley rifled into the top corner. 4 minutes later, and Flippers grabbed his second, when Dire Wrangle hit a speculative deep cross towards the front man, who played a calm finish into the bottom corner.

Dagenhams last two goals came in injury time, but they weren't enough to spil a glorious debut for a new club.

I don't do heading.

Nice to see the youngsters getting a run in the side, and it should be an interesting battle between myself and flippers for the top scorer at the club (and presumably the division as well).

Oh dear...Here we go...

I'm actually rather thin, and about 5'10". And I'm not sure I'd get anywhere near David Healy...

Has you editor turned me into a monster???

21st August

FMS 2 - 1 Chester

Just 3 days after the emphatic triumph over Dagenham, Homage to Gronigen, new home of FMS United, played host to the club for the first time. For a conference game, the attendence of just under 7,000 wasn't at all bad.

The game itself laboured through the first half. The same side that won last week returned but they didn't look they had the same penetration as the previous game. The FMS lads had most of the possesion for the first half, but couldn't break them down until the 44th minute. A corner given away on the stroke of half time saw another Flippers corner, his 5th of the half. This time he got it right, but Lord Crumb had it all to do as the ball floated towards him on the Penalty spot. His header powered into the top corner and FMS had the lead going into the break.

Up until the hour mark, shot rained in on the Chester City goal, but no second breakthorugh could be found and there was always the threat of being hit on the break. Fortuneatly for the Story Tellers, as FMS had become to be known be the fans, Bagpuss was on hand to round off a fantastic team move, started by the enigmatic Flippers. The midfielder tapped in from 2 yards after Wrangle had beaten 2 players and put in a low ball across the 6 yard box.

A 90th minute goal caught FMS napping, but there wasn't enough time for the visitors to grab an underserved equaliser. A decent performance, but not championship form.
