PLAYOFF FINAL

A game not one punter would have expected to see at the beginning of the season, including Clough, was on the cards at the Millennium Stadium, and what a game it turned out to be.

Hartlepool United 5
Leeds United 0

The Hartlepool players seemed to react to the huge turnout in a truly positive way. With Sakiri playing his 1st game for a month after injury and Parker back from suspension, things went according to plan. It was Sakiri who opened the floodgates on 39 minutes with a solo effort, beating 3 players and hitting a 20 yard thunderbolt into the top corner. Half time came and went, Parker came out roaring. An 18 minute hatrick of poachers goals had seen Pool establish a 4 goal lead. The subdued Williams made way for Watkins after 65 minutes and it was him who pushed the final nail in the coffin.

Who would have thought it - Hartlepool United were on their way to the PREMIERSHIP.

In what had been a hard fought, emotional season, Pool were the unlikely heroes. Clough was ecstatic, having been turned down for the Leeds job only 6 months previous, here he was condemning them to another season of lower league football. He afforded a dry smile whilst being drowned in champagne.

Congrats on promotion to the Premiership. IIRC you're the first person to do that with Pools aren't you?
