Default Changing a house's color

Hey folks.

Here's a question/challenge for you.

My neighbor removed the siding from his house. We wanted to try out different paint colors to see what would look nice when he re-finishes the clapboard.

What I'd like to do is virtually paint his house (but have it look realistic). Because his house is stripped down to raw wood in spots, simply changing the Hue/Saturation doesn't give a very realistic effect. Any ideas/suggestions on where to start?

Here's a sample of what I'm talking about:

Hi neolite, first you have to restore and retouch the photo with patch and stamp tool, and than change the colors. If you are not familiar with retouching here is a link with good tutorials and examples:

Good luck.

Default it's much easier than you might think.

hey, neolite. how are you? select the side of the house, using one of the selection tools. if you can do it, the magic wand is the easiest . (you can regulate the amount of coverage by changing the number in the tolerance field at the top of the page.) if not, use the lasso. it doesn't have to be perfectly done. then go to edit, fill, and use foreground color. voila! when you click on the foreground color before your selection, a window appears with nine zillion colors; pick one, and see how it looks. good luck, boyd.

You want to make it look realistic too? That's is something very time consuming, trust me.

And what do you consider realistic? Here's a quick unfinished draft I did in 10 min (avoided cloning by copy/pasting/stretching/etc. of a part of the siding).

You might consider it realistic enough, but personally it's not even close to my standards, but that would take me between 1-2 hours (includes wndows, stairs, shadows and highlights, etc) and I consider myself quite experienced.
I wish you all the luck to find someone who wants to spend a few hours on it or who can make it look realistic in 30 min, which includes painted stairs, windows and roof

Btw, this is a look at my layer's palette. Just one way to do it and maybe it can guide you to try it yourself Neolite.

Default Thanks folks!

I appreciate all the feedback you guys gave me. JoeD, for being able to sit with my neighbor and help him visualize colors on his house I think the job you did is perfect! It looks realistic enough to give him an idea of how a color will look on a large-scale.

Thanks JoeD. What a nice thing to do. I appreciate it.

I took the day off to go shoot some of the beautiful fall colors here in Upstate NY.

Yes, autumn is a great time to take shots! I was walking my son earlier and regretted that I didn't take my camera with me when I saw all those beautiful colors.
