Maybe I just need some help here because I am in Arizona and do not have my finger on the pulse of the great Bury-Bolton rivalry, but I don't think so. I am Bury in 2011 and have managed to get them L1 (from L2) and good for another promotion this year. I beat a couple of CH teams to get to the 6th round of the FA Cup. We faced our Fierce Rivals, Bolton. Bolton is in the Prem, two leagues higher. We went in with 8-1 odds to win.
We scored first and they equalized mid-match. In the 88th minute, the inevitable winner came from Bolton and our run abruptly ended. Post-match, they are surprised at our tenacity (paraphrasing here now).
I click continue and the supporters gave me a confidence of zero. Losing to our Fierce Rivals is completely unacceptable. No "Hey that was a pretty nice run for a L1 side" or "Good showing against our Fierce Rivals in the Prem considering we were L2 just 16 months ago".
The board like what I am doing but "the fans are understandably extremely disappointed at Bury's 1-2 (away) English FA Cup Sixth Round defeat against Bolton and it is likely to remain long in the memory." I guess the moral of the story is don't lose to Bolton.
So I get the rivalry stuff. Our yearly rivalry game (Arizona vs Arizona State) is tomorrow. But when nobody thinks you will win and you hold out for 88 min AWAY... I like the way rivalries have been there in the last versions, but I think maybe it's a bit overboard with regards to supporter confidence.
Oh and I'm post patch (on 8.0.1) but I am still in the same year as when I patched, which shouldn't matter.
The 'confidence' feature is new to FM so inevitably, there's going to be a few teething troubles.
I must admit, I manage a low league side myself, and when I lose in the cup to a side 2 divisions higher, the game tends not to recognize the fact that, even though I lost, I lost to a much better team...
