In FM2007, I had enjoyed a distinguished 10 year career with Sheffield Wednesday only to be told that, if a takeover was successful, John Sheridan would replace me as manager. I was spurred on to achieve even greater success and, with a run of fifteen games unbeaten, the new chairman came in and said that, "in light of my recent performances", he would be keeping me on.
So if you do well enough, they change their mind...sometimes.
a friend had that in one of my multi-rival hotseat games on 07, he was going to be replaced by steve bruce, which I found rather amusing. He didn't do amazingly but he kept his job, after the new man discussed it with people at the club apparantly. you don't have to perform miracles to stay, but exceeding expectations help a lot it seems. he wasn't that far above expectations but he was far enough.
In my game, Ferguson was sacked in 08 after finishing 3rd with semi final in UCL. I found that really amusing since his successor is Coppell...
Also they sacked 10 staffs of Ferguson and hired inferior coaches + scouts.
My guess is your reputation means nothing now, especially with board take over. You need to set a better record of winning, not losing.
I got sacked after 3 weeks in the job, without playing a match when I was Sampdoria last year. A little unfair, especially since they replaced me with Gianluca Vialli, he's not exactly an outstanding candidate, just had good ties to the club.

They were probably trying to reduce the wage bill due to their massive debts.
Like the others have said i am sure if you are performing well your job will be safe
