Wage Problem

Half way through season I decide to offer defender a new contract, upping his wages to 30k a week. Am informed that his partner at the back will be wanting to match these wages but wanted to give him a new deal anyway so am not bothered by this. However when I go to offer this player a new contract he wants upwards of 45k a week and I am told that the original player will want to match any deal he is given! What do I do to avoid this escalating out of control?

only offer the second player £30k, if he doesn't accept then just replace him, no good being held to ransom for wages
