Until the next patch, which will come out when? 1st february? I won't be playing, but still the game with a few more tweaks will be awesome. Now i'm going back to FM 07 which i'm still having fun with.

Just entering my 4th season, haven't changed my tactics once since day one, and have taken my York side to two promotions in 3 seasons.
Basic 442.

Yeah, you have to work so hard to succeed...

Again, nothing personal, but let me pick this one apart:

At best, he makes points you agree with. Good? Subject to opinion.

FM has become more and more "in depth" through the years, almost getting to the point of requiring a real job-like committment.
It's supposed to be a GAME, and games should be FUN and relaxing. Not a time-devouring, stressful experience.
Opinion, not fact. I thoroughly enjoy the game and I'm not exactly tactically apt. I just tweak here and there and hope something good happens and it regularly does. Regular enough for me, I hasten to add. I don't expect near constant succes.

Quote:
There's nothing wrong in wanting to pick Barcelona, ManU or Inter Milan and winning every trophy available, just picking 11 players and basically telling them "go out there and play".
It's a matter of personal preference.
Then FM isn't your game. What you describe there is nothing like a football sim of FM's complexity. You knew that after playing the demo or previous versions.

Quote:
Some may like to take an obscure amateur team and lead it to Premier Division. It'll be a hard, long and rewarding way.

But both types of players should be allowed to enjoy their game without suddenly experiencing outrageous losses and robbery wins...
That's quite a generous accusation. Needs to be quantified or it stands as an emotional outburst without merit.

Quote:
The game is OBVIOUSLY and heavily flawed.
It might be, but 'flawed' is also subject to taste. I couldn't care less about some famous player's personality not being updated (or some such 'bug' that I've seen reported). To me, that's not a flaw, to others it is. So let's take the flaws you take issue with:

Quote:
* Losing 0-4 home to your league's bottom team just because the game "decided" you have to lose
Clueless guessing about the working of the game. You have decided upon the existance of something that would explain the loss, but could be made up out of thin air for all anyone but SI know.

Quote:
* Suddenly having to turn your tactic around because the CPU decyphred it and can now play circles around your players
Clueless guessing about the working of the game.

Quote:
* Overcomplicated tactical settings that may or may not actually influence the game
Subject to taste and more guessing.

Quote:
* Defenders moving at the speed of a tectonic plate, unable to close down on my grandmother
Unquantified, general rant. How's this supposed to add anything to anything?

Quote:
* World class strikers squandering one-on-one chances
There seems to be something to that, but after a lot of discussion it would seem that this has more to do with the way the game 'play acts' the results of the simulation rather than making players worse than they are. Results, in general, seem unaffected by it.

Quote:
* Matches ending with 60+ shots on goal
Did not happen to me once. Played four seasons of FM08 so far. This needs backing up with stats and description of used tactics. 'But lots of people reported it' isn't going to cut it because 'lots of people' didn't back it up. Just because people parrot eachother, things don't become fact.

Quote:
* Top class matches being so random and awful that resemble to the haphazard wednesday night games you can have with your buddies
Subject to taste, unquantifiable.

Quote:
If you can stomach all of that, good for you.
All of what? And no need to get sarky.

Quote:
Frustration and feeling of uselessness should NOT be part of a gaming experience, no matter what I want out of it.
Agree completely. We have hardly determined the cause of these feelings, however...

Glad to see someone else getting success with the standard 442, I was beginning to think that si included all those premade tactics just for my benefit.

Unless you have your heart set on your team playing like Arsenal (if you do be prepared for the frustrations that go along with occasional joy of seeing the perfect goal), it is quite possible to just concentrate on wheeling and dealing and see your team significantly overperform against media expectations without micro managing your tactics every game.

DJ you are such a fan boy. and you could be very good lawyer. I just don't understand why you cannot accept some facts here.

if you look around the threads you would see many links, people backing it.

you say you didn't experience those problems?
now, back up some things you said;

-are you watching your matches?
-do you think dominating your opponents isn't the way to win a match?
-do you think 30+ shots per game and then loosing with only shot on goal is OK? (ok, it might happen from time to time, but I've seen people's posts when this is happening game after game)
-are you in love?

Well, I agree that FM/CM can be extremely frustrating.

There are issues that make some results extremely unrealistic, like several dozens of shots to goal without goal, all inside box etc.

One thing to keep things in focus, most of the newer feature have been requested by bunch of very "loud" fans of FM/CM who wanted more "interaction". Well, they got what they wanted. Some of it went well, some of it not so well. And as result, it's not anymore as much fun as previously. I don't think that all additions added much to playability...mostly opposite.

Tactics-wise, I have never had trouble with it nor having to resort to downloading "magical" tactics. 4-4-2 attacking or 4-5-1 attacking tactics have always worked well for me. Of course, I like playing Liverpool, Chelsea, Barchelona, Real Madrid..so obviously my teams have capability. What I have to tweak during the matches are team and especially individual player instructions. Especially after substitutions.

I don't care about training, for that I d/l some training file that seems to work and just leave it there. I'm head coach, I don't give a fock if C. Ronaldo should lift more weights or whatever. To me it matters if he's fit and can play.

I don't mind playing FM 08, it's just not for casual gamer anymore.

That's the age that the British Board of Classification deems the game suitable for in terms of the language, violence, sexual content, etc.

Most certainly not a recommendation of the age that you should start playing the game. Besides, I know a couple of toddlers who could play the game, I'm not saying they'd win anything, but they could most certainly master the art of clicking a mouse and watching the dots move.
