Actually, to SI's credit, there's a pretty full explantion of each tactical option in FM08's manual, compared to previous versions.

Some games improve with a next version release, this game doesnt. SI have lost focus on what this game is about and that is Football and what happens on the pitch!

Their is just to much in this game that has an effect on your team performance. Players all acting teen girly emotional when you say something in the media. Silly team talks that decide wether a player will perform or not, again with the players acting all emotional.

Start improving the match engine ! instead of all these silly side thingies which are just annoying.

Ferguson: "Cmon ronaldo you can do it !"
Ronaldo: "Oh im not sure, SO MUCH PRessure to deal with"
Ferguson: "Dont worry I believe in your ability and the pressure is off"
Ronaldo: "Gee thanks coach I feel so good now, I gonna score a hattrick today for you!"
Ferguson: "See I just knew you had it in you, we will kiss later"

It's so g-a-y

What's the use of that? They really think getting their emotions listened to has priority over improving the game? Can we just conclude they have everyones sympathy and get to something more important? That may sound harsh, but I have no patience at all for such emotions.

Quote:
i think people have every right to vent. £25 and upwards is a significant amount of money to some people - myself included -
So they would enjoy the game if it cost a tenner? A fiver?

Discussing the price is completely beside the point, I think. Not to mention the fact that there was a demo out in order to judge the game - the only refutal for that argument is that long-term issues can't be viewed with the demo, to which I state that if there were only long-term issues with the game, the amount of anger vented at the game-engine would have been significantly less.

Then there is the long-standing tradition that a version 1 of any program and also CM/FM, which we know well and have ample experience with, is prone to have issues. Knowing that, why not wait until there is a v2/patch?

Quote:
so why shouldn't they be allowed to express their discontent on these forums simply because you think it's "useless" and "damn annoying".
Because it is useless. It would be blinkered to the extreme not to admit that 'GRRRRRRRR' does even less to improve the game than writing nothing at all. And emotions? I've written enough about those. May I suggest www.marsvenus.com for learning to deal with them?

Quote:
i'd suggest that some of the posts are far from useless, many i've read have contained very constructive and detailed reasons for their disappointment
I vehemently disagree. 99% of the complaints contain
- venting only
- guessing at the workings of the game
- guessing and slander at SI's methods of working and expertise
- same for SI's dedication to improve the program
- same for SI's business ethics

and any combination thereof.

Quote:
and it's important for SI to learn from these posts and make improvements accordingly as they see fit.
How? Just execute 'sorted_out.exe'? Magic fixes don't exist. Neither do easy fixes. If those existed, there would be no issues in the first place.

Quote:
right now, the series is in danger of becoming a 'micro-management' simulation which will not appeal to everyone;
Getting that balance right is a biatch, I agree. It's up to SI to decide which type of player to go for. People who think there's room for improvement, should point out (without cursing and venting) what their ideas are.
Preferably suggesting improvements instead of saying 'this is wrong, sort it out', which is the usual type of 'suggestion'.

Quote:
the beauty of previous incarnations has been the flexibility with which you can play - if you wanted an easy ride or a long-term challenge then you could make that choice yourself. this decision has been taking out of the hands of those with limited time to play the game, there is not such variety in difficulty levels and unless you're prepared to invest considerable time and effort, it can be frustrating.
Valid point. Not appealing to me, because I only go for the long haul. Should SI implement difficulty levels? A well-articulated post discussing that might get them thinking about it. Posts saying 'omg Man U don't even win the CL despite my downloaded supertactics and supersignings' do not add anything to that effect whatsoever.

Quote:
your point regarding 'bashers' - or rather critics - behaving as though they have an all-encompassing knowledge of the game applies equally to those who defend the game. i'm not sure whether the logic you're using to condone the insults is hypocritical or not, are you being ironic?
So, because I criticise 'bashers' (and not 'critics', because they are not the same), I automatically am on the 'defenders/blind fanboys' team and therefore claim to know the game? And I condone insults?

You are mistaken, reading things into what I write that make it easier for you to find fault with me. I'm not black and white like that. In my opinion, there are things in the game that need improvement, vast improvement even, but they are not of the usual 'I want instant wins' kind. I have not discussed them here yet, because if I post anything to suggest my desired improvements at this point in time, my posts will drown immediately for being neither black nor white, not to mention that these would be suggestions for the long haul, not things that need instant fixing. More of general direction for the game to take. Overall, FM is a good game. In fact, it's the one I play most, so for me it's just about the best game I own.

Not so defensive, buddy. Only eedjits will try to pick you up for making a technical mistake like that.

The original poster may have been a bit too much "dramatic" in his wording (and actions... snapping the cd = burning your money), but he makes sone very very good points.

FM has become more and more "in depth" through the years, almost getting to the point of requiring a real job-like committment.
It's supposed to be a GAME, and games should be FUN and relaxing. Not a time-devouring, stressful experience.

There's nothing wrong in wanting to pick Barcelona, ManU or Inter Milan and winning every trophy available, just picking 11 players and basically telling them "go out there and play".
It's a matter of personal preference.

Some may like to take an obscure amateur team and lead it to Premier Division. It'll be a hard, long and rewarding way.

But both types of players should be allowed to enjoy their game without suddenly experiencing outrageous losses and robbery wins...

The game is OBVIOUSLY and heavily flawed.

* Losing 0-4 home to your league's bottom team just because the game "decided" you have to lose

* Suddenly having to turn your tactic around because the CPU decyphred it and can now play circles around your players

* Overcomplicated tactical settings that may or may not actually influence the game

* Defenders moving at the speed of a tectonic plate, unable to close down on my grandmother

* World class strikers squandering one-on-one chances

* Matches ending with 60+ shots on goal

* Top class matches being so random and awful that resemble to the haphazard wednesday night games you can have with your buddies

If you can stomach all of that, good for you.

Frustration and feeling of uselessness should be part of a gaming experience, no matter what I want out of it.

DJ I agree there are bashers and critics. yestrday I was a critic and today I'm moaner, and I have every right to feel so. why?

becouse I don't want to wait until 2nd, 3rd, or 4th patch to play it. yestrday I played it, today I'm not, this is an syndrom when you see some things that are repeating over and over in matches and after I while, you just explode in "I've seen enough" manner. my both bodies which who I played net game, quited also. lots of people on this forum also.

those guys who say that our tactics is responsible for not scoring, they are blind or in love. I don't want to play a game in which you must subordinat to it's bugs to be succesfull. and I (we) are not moaning about not wining. we are moaning about bad defence system, off-sides, long shots, 1/1 chances, redicoulus team talks with magical effects and so on....

FOR ALL WHO DEFEND THE GAME (NOT TO SI)

well I came to the point that the game is too bugy.

it's realy hard to enjoy it, not only all those missed chances becouse if they were scored as they should, scores would be like 11-8 or 8-9 or smth. what ****es me off the most is the stupid defence. it happens all the time that strikers gets the cleared ball in his half and than he dances by with 4 defenders just watching and enjoying in his show.

yeah it's probably my tactics, lol like you have to tell your player that he is a player and not a fan.

"hey Les, mentality, 2 notches to the left!!!" I heard fergie in last match. and after leading 2-0 in half time Fergie says: "OK lads, I'm pleased, let's just finish the match". and it's 54th minute it's 2-3 to CSKA (abramovic sent a plane for that fameous sibiran shaman, as he doesn't want his comrades to loose agg his english rivals). what happened, is asking Fergie himself?? (at this pointbut he doesn't know that shaman is using some woodoo **** on his team). he's mad!! it's 60 th minute, Rooney and Ronaldo are coming in, he even set all his players's long shots to rarely, as they were wasting too much of they oportunities with middle range shooting.

"now we are playing, you'll see you comunist bastards" thinks Fergie after few Ronaldo's tricks, "oooooohhh look at Wayne, I never seen him fired up like this"

it's the end of the match, Man U lost 2-4 in front of their own fans. "I've never seen a goal like that, who is that guy?" stated fergie about the last goal russians scored (in 89th minute, an unknown youngster managed to drible from his own area and he passed 9 man u players, to score the exellant 40 yarder). the problem is that Fergie can't buy this lad, becouse he is only a regen.

anyway Man U lost and day after that match Fergie said to Daily Mirror: "I believe he (CSKA coach) has magical powers". (and he wasn't wrong)

we wanted this kind of match engine (me also) and we got it. I must say SI did good job with it. but things are more complecated than they look.

that's what I wrote yestrday after I've seen it enough syndrom...
