What's the use of that? They really think getting their emotions listened to has priority over improving the game? Can we just conclude they have everyones sympathy and get to something more important? That may sound harsh, but I have no patience at all for such emotions.

i think people have every right to vent. £25 and upwards is a significant amount of money to some people - myself included -
|
So they would enjoy the game if it cost a tenner? A fiver?
Discussing the price is completely beside the point, I think. Not to mention the fact that there was a demo out in order to judge the game - the only refutal for that argument is that long-term issues can't be viewed with the demo, to which I state that if there were only long-term issues with the game, the amount of anger vented at the game-engine would have been significantly less.
Then there is the long-standing tradition that a version 1 of
any program and also CM/FM, which we know well and have ample experience with, is prone to have issues. Knowing that, why not wait until there is a v2/patch?

so why shouldn't they be allowed to express their discontent on these forums simply because you think it's "useless" and "damn annoying".
|
Because it
is useless. It would be blinkered to the extreme not to admit that 'GRRRRRRRR' does even less to improve the game than writing nothing at all. And emotions? I've written enough about those. May I suggest
www.marsvenus.com for learning to deal with them?

i'd suggest that some of the posts are far from useless, many i've read have contained very constructive and detailed reasons for their disappointment
|
I vehemently disagree. 99% of the complaints contain
- venting only
- guessing at the workings of the game
- guessing and slander at SI's methods of working and expertise
- same for SI's dedication to improve the program
- same for SI's business ethics
and any combination thereof.

and it's important for SI to learn from these posts and make improvements accordingly as they see fit.
|
How? Just execute 'sorted_out.exe'? Magic fixes don't exist. Neither do easy fixes. If those existed, there would be no issues in the first place.

right now, the series is in danger of becoming a 'micro-management' simulation which will not appeal to everyone;
|
Getting that balance right is a biatch, I agree. It's up to SI to decide which type of player to go for. People who think there's room for improvement, should point out (without cursing and venting) what their ideas are.
Preferably suggesting improvements instead of saying 'this is wrong, sort it out', which is the usual type of 'suggestion'.

the beauty of previous incarnations has been the flexibility with which you can play - if you wanted an easy ride or a long-term challenge then you could make that choice yourself. this decision has been taking out of the hands of those with limited time to play the game, there is not such variety in difficulty levels and unless you're prepared to invest considerable time and effort, it can be frustrating.
|
Valid point. Not appealing to me, because I only go for the long haul. Should SI implement difficulty levels? A well-articulated post discussing that might get them thinking about it. Posts saying 'omg Man U don't even win the CL despite my downloaded supertactics and supersignings' do not add anything to that effect whatsoever.

your point regarding 'bashers' - or rather critics - behaving as though they have an all-encompassing knowledge of the game applies equally to those who defend the game. i'm not sure whether the logic you're using to condone the insults is hypocritical or not, are you being ironic?
|
So, because I criticise 'bashers' (and not 'critics', because they are
not the same), I automatically am on the 'defenders/blind fanboys' team and therefore claim to know the game? And I
condone insults?
You are mistaken, reading things into what I write that make it easier for you to find fault with me. I'm not black and white like that. In my opinion, there are things in the game that need improvement, vast improvement even, but they are not of the usual 'I want instant wins' kind. I have not discussed them here yet, because if I post anything to suggest my desired improvements at this point in time, my posts will drown immediately for being neither black nor white, not to mention that these would be suggestions for the long haul, not things that need instant fixing. More of general direction for the game to take. Overall, FM is a good game. In fact, it's the one I play most, so for me it's just about the best game I own.

Not so defensive, buddy. Only eedjits will try to pick you up for making a technical mistake like that.
