The Eagle has landed
So here we are at the start of a new season and rookie manager Paul Rouch is aiming to get Palace straight back in to the Premiership! After a confidence building preseason and a favourable home draw for the opening fixture against Plymouth, the Eagles faithful dreaming of an instant return to the premiership!
Versus QPR (Away) 1st October 2005
Palace were in breathtaking form as they tore poor Rangers apart in very short order! Malcolm Christie grabbed the first goal after only 2 minutes, the crowds were still smiling after the first strike when Clinton Morrisson doubled the advantage after 4 minutes passed. On 8 minutes Tom Soares sent the Palace faithful’s hearts soareing

when he netted the third goal! QPR’s defence were at sixes and sevens and they conceded a fourth goal, still with only 11 minutes on the board when Eagles defender, Fitz Hall grabbed his second goal of the season. Palace were in total control and cantered to the break without adding to their tally. The second half saw a penalty awarded against the hapless QPR defence which Marco Ingrao duly converted to make it 5-0! QPR did rally and wake up, they finally responded after the penalty and Townsend grabbed one back for the superhoops. Langley added another topken of resistance on 75 minutes but the damage was done and the game already won

Another 5 goal masterclass from Palace with all five in the first half! Morrisson opened up the Cardiff defence and scored in the first 5 minutes, Watson got the second on the quarter hour, swiftly followed by Wright’s first 6 minutes later. Andy Johnson also got in on the act just before the break and Wright got his second and Palaces fifth just on the whistle for the break! The second half saw a determined effort by Cardiff to get themselves back in the game, their defence was reorganised and they thrust at the eagles in search of goals. Horsfield grabbed what looked like being a consolation goal 6 minutes in to the restart. However Horsfield and Keene both netted again for Cardiff in a mad 4 minute spell mid way through the second half to give the visiting fans hope! It was false hope though as Cardiff failed to trouble the Palace net again and Clinton Morrisson grabbed the Man of the Match award for his opening strike and assists

A real battle here and Pal;ace were very unlucky to end on the losing side, especially when you consider how their strikers had been taking their chances in the previous 2 games! Southampton were fortunate butr credit does go to their scorers who converted their opportunities! Snodgrass sneaked the first just past the half hour mark and Boyd sealed it in the second

Sandy Pettigrews Wolves were the next visitors to Selhurst Park, but their Manager failed to turn up and his assistant had to take control. Unfortunately the assistant just wasn’t up to the job as Palace dominated Wolves all over the pitch and ran out comfortable 2-0 winners after a brace from Clinton Morrisson who was narrowly beaten to the Man Of The Match Champagen by a driving performance from Danny Butterfield

A difficult trip to the potteries was next up and Rouch continued to place his faith in Ben Wright who had been shining in the strikers role since signing for the club! His run of good form look set to continue when he grabbed the opener in the first half and sent the Eagles into the break 1-0 up

The second half saw Wright seal his brace and double Palace’s advantage. Kolar pulled one back for the home side but it wasn’t enough to stop Palace running out 2-1 winners
