Just read through all 7 pages of this, good thread gents.

Nice to see this is still going strong. Strange to think it's 4 years since this all began!

Good luck to the lad who's Alloa in particular, whatever happened to taking over a good, old-fashioned proper p!sh team and making them... p!sher?!
He has done that already and got sacked so now he is taking on some proper proper pish Steve!!!

Good to see your still about mate, and we will leave the taking a proper pish team and making them pisher to you!!! Remember Wolves, Torquay!!!! :p </BLOCKQUOTE>

I had both of them in the Premiership and in Europe thank you very much! Even if Wolves' stay in the Prem wasn't the longest!

Yup yup I'm still about and still playing CM01/2... I'll master this one day. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Myself and Steve Gold were talking about this last night and we don't remember seeing Torquay in the Premiership or any team you went in Europe. :p

We do however remember your 9-2 thrashing that you will never ever live down Steve!!!

That Hatters Herald - The Hatters reach the play off promised land!!!!

When Hepburn took over as Luton manager he said he would the team to the play offs and many looked at him as if he was stupid. Boy did Hepburn have the last laugh as he not only took Luton to the play offs but he managed to somehow get them promotion into the Championship. Credit has to go to Hepburn and his whole team as it was an incredible effort and now the fans have Championship football to look forward to. Here is how the Hatters got there.........

League One Play Off Semi Final First Leg

Luton v Barnsley - (H) Sat 12th may 2007

Luton were handed a tough draw in the play off semi final as they drew Barnsley who only narrowly missed out on automatic promotion. Hepburn was hoping to take a good lead to Barnsley for the return leg but in the end he was more than happy with a draw as Barnsley really did outplay Luton for much of this semi final first leg. Barnsley started the better of the two teams quickly taking control of the game but it was Luton who took the lead in thirty six minutes through Dean Morgan. The lead did not last for long as only two minutes later Barnsley were level. Luton struggled to get their game going but that was down to barnsly playing so well. Luton had it all to do in the second leg if they were to get to the final.

Final Score - Luton 1 v 1 Barnsley
Goals - Luton - Morgan (36)
Goals - Barnsley - Kay (38)
Att - 10478
MOTM - Wes Morgan (Barnsley)

League One Play Off Semi Final 2nd Leg

Barnsley v Luton - (A) Tues 15th May 2007

Luton travelled to Barnsley for the second leg of their play off knowing full well the task in hand and it was a huge one if they were to reach the final. The media, the bookies and just about everyone else had written their chances off before a ball was even kicked but all this did was spur them on to produce an absolutely stunning display on the night. They started like an express train and controlled most of the game. They were creating chances and playing some superb football but surprisingly fell behind after twenty minutes as Robbie Williams scored from the penalty spot. This just made the task even bigger but the Luotn players rose to that challenge and just went all out attack and it seemed to stun Barnsley. Luton were camped in the Barnsley half for the remainder of the half but could not find an equaliser. In the second half they came out aagin all guns blazing and managed to get a quick equaliser just after the restart through Dean Morgan. This tie was set up for a grandstand finish and we certainly got that as both teams went in search for a winner and a place in the final. A winner could not be found within the ninety minutes so it was onto extra time although how Luton had not scored by now was a mystery!!!! Luton picked themself up for one last huge effort and were rewarded almost immediately as Dean Morgan scored again to make it 2-1. Joe Carter-Harris who came on as a second half sub scored what was a prefectly timed first goal for the club to make it 3-1 soon after and Barnsly were all but out. With only minutes remaining Barnsley dramatically pulled a goal back to set up a grandstand finish but Kevan Hurst who had been outstanding sealed the win with a fourth for Luton. Hepburn could not believe what he was seeing!!!! A fantastic game of football this.

Final Score - Barnsley 2 v 4 Luton aet
Goals - Barnsley - Robbie Williams (pen,20), Hayes (116)
Goals - Luton - Morgan (47,95), Carter-Harris (98), Hurst (120)
Att - 23149
MOTM - Kevan Hurst (Luton)

League One Play Off Final

Grimsby v Luton - (N) Sat 26th May 2007

After the super human performance Luton put in at Barnsley they now were only one game away from Championship football again next season. It was off to Wembley Stadium as they faced Grimsby whose 4-0 thrashing was still fresh in the memory of the Luton manager and players. Hepburn said that that was the weirdest games of footall he had witnessed but how different this game was. This could have been one of the most one sided play off finals in it's history. Luton were just superb while Grimsby were just awful. Luton handed Grimsby a thrashing of thier own and what a game to do it in. The star man for Luton was captain Kevin Nicholls who scored a hat trick, albeit two from the penalty spot but who cares really. Further goals from Dean Morgan and Kevan Hurst saw Luton run out 5-0 winners on the day and safely intot he Championship they went. When the full time whistle went it was party time for Luton and boy did they celebrate!!! A truly magnificent end to the season that few could have predicted half way through the season with Luton lying in mid table.

Final Score - Grimsby 0 v 5 Luton
Goals - Luton - Morgan (21), Hurst (25), Nicholls (pen,42,45,74)
Att - 36277
MOTM - Kevin Nicholls (Luton)

So a truly magnificent end to the season for Luton and boy will these players and manager celebrate it while they can as the hard work will son begin as Championship football awaits them next season.

Torquay were in Europe, I'm positive! I believe there was a war.

The 6th goal was offside in that match and the other 8 were flukes I'll have you know!

Hey I got my team to a playoff spot, in my opinion the worst manager award should go to you because you have poor judgement when it comes to giving out these awards

Hepburn builds for the Championship

After a fantastic end to last season, Hepburn and his team went their seperate ways as they all deserved a long holiday after what went on at Wembley in May. Hepburn had achieved what he had set out to do and now it was time to build on the foundations laid and get in some new players ready for the new season in the Championship. Hepburn expected it to be tough and it will be but Luton have a spirit about them that should see them do alright next season.

Hepburn went off on scouting duties around the world to try and find new talent on a limited budget and limited wages. Here is who he managed to bring in duirng pre season:

David Dunn AMR/C - Free Transfer - Hepburn was delighted that ex England international David Dunn had decided to come to Kenilworth Road. The player has bags of experience in the Premiership and at international level so to get him in on a free was fantastic.

Nick Montgomery DMC - 50K Form Sheffield Utd - Hepburn has his good mate Rob Perry to thank for this transfer. Montomgery was not getting a game for Utd so Perry decided to part with him for 50K. He will add a huge amount of strength in the centre of midfield. Will be fighting it out with play off hero and captain Kevin Nicholls for a starting slot.

Martyn Corrigan DRC,MC - 9K From Bolton - Hepburn tried to buy him last season but he wasn't interested but Corrigan has seen the potential of Luton and decided to join for 9K. A pacey solid right back who will add a lot to the right hand side of the Luton side.

Pedro Vega AMLC - Free Transfer - Hepburn saw this lad and just had to have him in his squad. He has pace to burn and can put in a great cross and that is what Hepburn wants from him. Should be a sensation in the Championship. Also has a great shot on him so Hepburn is hoping he can contribute a few goals to the team.

Steve Lovell ST - Free Transfer From Wolves - Hepburn again bent the ear of another friend of his Sandy Pettigrew to part with Lovell who was going no where under Pettigrew. Happliy he obliged and Lovell became a Luton player. Will add to an already red hot strikeforce and weigh in with a few goals.

Hepburn has been very astute in the transfer market and looks to have bought well in areas that needed strengthening in the Luton squad. It remains to be seen whether these buys will work out but they have looked promising during pre season. Here is how the pre season friendlies went for Luton:

Luton v Millwall - (H) Mon 16th July 2007
Final Score - Luton 0 v 1 Millwall

Scunthorpe v Luton - (A) Fri 20th July 2007
Final Score - Scunthorpe 1 v 1 Luton

Welling v Luton - (A) Tues 24th July 2007
Final Score - Welling 0 v 6 Luton

Worcester v Luton - (A) 31st July 2007
Final Score - Worcester 0 v 3 Luton

It has been a good pre season for Luton and now it's onto the serious business of playing in the Championship and trying to stay in it first and foremost.
