The Eagle has landed
So here we are at the start of a new season and rookie manager Paul Rouch is aiming to get Palace straight back in to the Premiership! After a confidence building preseason and a favourable home draw for the opening fixture against Plymouth, the Eagles faithful dreaming of an instant return to the premiership!
Versus Plymouth (Home) 6th August 2005
The season finally starts and the team line up with debutants Martin Djetou and Marco Ingrao. Palace are easily the better team but Plymouth somehow manage a goal against the run of play from Capaldi to go in to the break one up

The second half saw the Eagles continue to dominate but again Plymouth somehow conjured a goal on the break with Chadwick netting this time :thdn: Andy Johnson opened his account close to the end but it wasn’t enough to prevent an ill-deserved opening day defeat for the south Londoners.

Versus Crewe (Home) 9th August 2005
After a good performance but poor result in the last game, Rouch was determined to get the three points today! The defence was drilled all week and the team were certainly confident at the back. Malcolm Christie, the clubs new signing was also given a start. However, Crewe had a gameplan to thwart and frustrate the Palace forward line, and in a dogged performance the railwaymen looked like they were going too achieve their aim until Andy Johnson popped up in the 90th minute to score a well earned winner for the Eagles 1-0

He also picked the the MOM champagne for sealing a superb display with the deserved goal :thup:

So with a first win under his belt, rookie manager was keen to build on the teams confidence and Jon Macken demonstrated gave a man of the match performance as Palace tore Preston apart. Macken grabbed his first after 8 minutes after the start, but Prestons Pearson equalise 4 minutes later, undeterred, Macken netted again to put Palace 2-1 up going in to the break. The second half saw Macken complete his hatrick as the eagles ran out easy winners in this one sided encounter.

A very tough game away to the tigers of Hull, honours ended even with Andy Johnson getting his third in four games, only to see Hull’s Ben Burgess equalise and ensure a share of the points.

So after the moralke wrecking defeat to lowly Southend midweek, Palace look to bounce back against Burnley, the first 87 minutes pass by uneventfully with Palace failing to convert their dominance into goals until Andy Johnson finally breaks the deadlock in the 87th, shortly followed by a Clinton Morrisson strike in injury time, as the crowd paused for breath Gareth O’connor pulled one back for Burnley right at the death but it was too little too late for the clarets! Andy Johnson picked up his second MOM award of the month after his late strike

A game marred by the injury to Andy Johnson, now out for up to 2 months and lit up for the neutral and home fans by a heroic performance between the sticks for Derby by Lee Camp. It was another game where Palace dominated and deserved more than they got, but the MOM award for Camp was well deserved as he kept the palace strke force at bay for the full 90 minutes
