Sheffield United boot out Warnock + New unknown manager finally speaks!
There was much shock and disbelief around Bramall lane today as Sheffield United chairmain Derek Dooley
announced that the club would be parting company with manager Neil Warnock with immediate effect.
He went of to further shock the media and supporters alike when he annoucned that new man was already
identified and in fact, he was inside the lane taking charge at that very moment!
The waiting press pack held it's breath, who could the new man be? was he any good? why was Warnock
replaced? does anyone know when this will be done so we can all go for a pint?
Finally Dooley piped up again........"Ladies and Gentlemen it gives me great pleasure to present to you
the new manager of Sheffield United football club.....................Mr Steff Browning".
*stunned silence*
Steff: So any questions then?
Reporter 1 : Who in the utter **** are you?
Steff: I'm the new manager you moron, didn't you just hear what Mr Dooely said?, keep up man!
Reporter 2 : Your not qualified to take over such a high profile position are you?
Steff: I believe my record, or rather lack of a record speaks volumes about how under qualified
I am for this job, but did you see the wages they offered me? I sure as hell wasn't going to say no!
Reporter 3: What are your plans for the club?, where do you see this team going?
Steff: Well it has been brought to my attention that my fellow lowlife over at Southampton,
Andrew Hepburn, has been making outrageous claims that the saints will be in the Premiership next season
and then in the champions league soon after that.............he's obviously at the glue, but as for this
side I do beleive with a bit of work we have the potential to challenge for at least a playoff spot
given a bit of luck, and with a bit of luck we can win promotion this season.........no promises though.
Fan at the back You have to get Tonge, Kabba, Kenny on to new deals!
Steff: Don't tell me how to do my job, do I come to your work and tell you how to sweep up? Ok
thats it no more questions, I have work to be getting on with.
After Browning left the press conference he met Neil Warnock who had just finished clearing his desk and
was on his way out of the ground, Warnock had these kind words for the new manager "don't worry about
taking my job, it's what the club wanted so grab this opportunity with both hands, me? yeah sure I'm
gutted to be out of management just now, but I'll just wait until Rob Perry gets the bullet at Cardiff
and I'll be right back in there again, just you wait and see.
Well after finally getting rid of that press lot and that loser Warnock I set about assessing my squad
and getting rid of some deadwood.
First out the door was that muppet Sturat McCall, he may be a good guy and a decent assistant manager
but I just kept picturing him in that Rangers strip - he had to go

Billercay came a knocking for the services of Stephen Quinn, I took them up on their kind offer and
pocketed (quite literally) 18k for the player
Next up was the S.O.S from that nutcase Perry "I need a defender do you have anyone I can bid for?"
"erm........I have Unsworth.........just take him off my hands and get out of my office".
So offically thats David Unsworth to Cardiff on a free transfer - reality is he was begged from me.
Finally on the outward bound was Haidong Hao on a free transfer - he quickly hired by desperate Cardiff
manager Rob Perry as a coach.
Yeah time to get scouting and spend all the lovely money the board gave me!
There were loads of players who could be signed but the sad reality is that not many of them would even
consider signing for Sheffield United. First thing was first, get a new assistant manager to replace
Stuart McCall, and we got a one here, ALL HAIL THE CANTONA \O/ and yes I freely admit he was signed on
the basis of his name alone and not his ability.
After a bit more scouting around Europe I had identified Cesar Jimenez as a good signing, in went the
offer to Zaragoza for 400k and back came their acceptance

, this players should prove an adequate
replacement for Unsworth.
And the only other player to join up for now was Hungarian striker Krisztian Kenesei on a free transfer.
With all that out of the way, it was time to find out of this lot could actually play or not, so we
ventured forth will some reasonable optimism towards our pre season friendlies.
Saturday 16th July 2005: Chelmsford v Sheff Utd : Friendly : 7-0 win
Chelmsford were crushed in a lightning blitz by my lads here as they racked up their seven goals inside
the first half!
Neil Shipperley got us underway in the 7th minute, Phil Jagielka got the second in 12mins, Alan Quinn
make it three inside 24mins, this had all the makings of a rout by this point, 3 minutes later Shipperly
grabbed his second goal and the teams fourth, Shipperley completed his hat track inside 40mins with a
stunning volley for the fifth.Garry Flitcroft added number six in the 44th minute and Michael Tonge
completed the magnificant seven right on the stroke of half time.
Second half was a snooze fest, and apparently both teams went to sleep as well, nothing to see here,
move along please.
Tuesday 19th July 2005: Nottm Forest v Sheff Utd : Friendly : 2-1 win
Nothing worth any note happened in this match for 64mins. NOTHING, and even then the only thing that
happened in the 64th minute was Michael Tonge going off injured, still it made a nice change from the
crap play that had been served up prior to that. The game did find a little bit of life in the 70th
minute when Paul Ifill was clattered by some Forest diddy inside the penalty box, the rest had no
hesitation as he pointed to the spot, Ifill dusted himself down and converted the kick himself.
Gary Holt pulled Forest level in the 84th minute but Ad Akinbiyi won the game for us with his 89th
minute strike after rounding the keeper \o/
Saturday 23rd July 2005: Bristol Rovers v Sheff Utd : Friendly : 2-0 win
Crap match punctured by only two moments of any note, 45mins Danny Webber scored, 52 mins Phil Jagielka
scores.........the end.
Wednesday 27th July 2005: Rotheram v Sheff Utd : Friendly : 3-0 win
Goals from Steven Kabba (3mins) Alan Quinn (46mins) and Michael Tonge (70mins) were enough to see off a
lacklustre Rotheram side who never really looked threatening our goal at any time during the match.
Saturday 30th July 2005: Sheff Utd v Parma : Friendly : 2-1 defeat
A chance for my lads to test themselves against one of Europe's big name sides, in Italian Giants Parma.
Marco Delvecchio opened the scoring with his 12th minute penalty, three minutes later Bernardo Corradi
doubled the advantage for the visitors.
Ade Akinbiyi pulled one back for us in the 42nd minute, but Parma were able to see the rest of the game
out comfortably and in reality they never really needed to get out of second gear.
Wednesday 3rd August 2005: Sheff Utd v Arsenal : Friendly : 1-0 win \o/
The mighty Arsenal visited the lane and most people were exepecting a hammering here, or at least a good
game, truth is they got neither, Alan Quinn scored in the 3rd minute and the game instantly fizzled out

........no seriously it did.
And now finally all the rubbish is out of the way !
It's time to start on the long and hard road to the premiership........or at least the playoffs!
The players were ready, I was ready, the fans were...........erm still protesting outside the ground
over my appointment, but thats a kinda ready, right?
Saturday 6th August 2005 : Stoke v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-1 win
My first game in charage and I was hoping for a good result to hopefully shut some of those whinning
fans up, After 11 minutes though it looked like it was going to be an uphill battle, as Sambegou
Bangoura gave stoke the lead with a delightful litte chip over my helpless keeper

Nick Montgomery pulled us back into the match in the 42minute with his low hard shot.
At half time I got the players in and hammered into their heads that they could win this match, at least
one of them took my advice on board, Krisztian Kenesei came out 2nd half with a point to prove, he
grabbed his debut goal in the 55th minute and capped off a good performance with his second goal in the
90th minute.
A 3-1 win

, I bet you fans love me now? ......oh no you don't .. ok then
Tuesday 9th August 2005: Brighton v Sheff Utd: Coca-Cola Championship: 2-0 win
This one was a case of the late late late late late show for us here, both sides had plenty of chances
in this one and it looked like it was heading for an (entertaining) 0-0 draw.
But it wasn't until the 88th minute before the ball found the back of the net thanks to Neil
Shipperley's right boot. Steven Kabba got on the end of the ball as the Brighton keeper played it from
outside his own box allowing Kabba a shot at an open goal from 45 yards.
Saturday 13th August 2005: Sheff Utd v Reading : Coca-Cola Championship : 0-0
Quite possibly the biggest robbery since the great train robbery here, how Reading never won this match
I'll never know, my lot only managed on shot on target during the whole game and never EVER looked like
threatening Reading's goal after that.
Reading were robbed......But i'll take it \o/
Saturday 20th August 2005: Sheff Utd v Ipswich : Coca-cola Championship : 0-0 draw
Ohhhh another fecking 0-0 draw, this time it was down to my strikers inability to take advantage of the
chances that came their way as Ipswich never managed a single shot on target during the entire 90 mins.
Rubbish :thdn:
Wednesday 24th August 2005: Darlington v Sheff Utd : Carling Cup First Round : 3-1 win
Simon Johnson fired Darlington into a shock lead in the 4th minute, their joy was short lived though as
Alan Quinn levelled for United a mere minute later. Sheff Utd now pressed forward in great numbers as
they attempted to claim the lead and the breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Steven Kabba got on
the end of a Michael Tonge cross and smashed the ball low and hard past the keeper \o/
Things went from bad to worse for Darlington as Matthew Clarke was sent off just on the stoke of half
time for what can only be described as a shocking tackle.
Down 2-1 and down to ten, things weren't looking bright for Darlington at half time.
The second half started pretty slowly but the result was never in doubt as the Sheff Utd defence seemed
resolved to never be breached by Darlington again and in the 64th minute Alan Quinn put the result
beyond doubt as he grabbed his second of the game and United's 3rd. After that it was just a case of us
seeing out the remainder of the match as we marched on to the second round draw.
Saturday 27th August 2005: Watford v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-0 win
This one was another late late late show as things looked like to be heading for another 0-0 draw until
my players realised they were indeed allowed to score goals, in fact, that they were encouraged to score
goals!
Neil Shipperley finally got the picture as the netted in the 79th minute. Steven Kabba popped up from
nowhere in the 88th minute to grab the second goal and Shipperley completed the lateness of it all with
his second goal in the 89th minute \o/
Monday 29th August 2005: Sheff Utd v Leicester : 1-1 draw
On reflection both teams stuggled to really get going at all in this match.
Things did look bright at the start from Sheffield United as Krisztian Kenesei fired them into a fourth
minute lead, but if we're being honest it was a mistake from Leciester defence that let him in rather
than great play from ourselves. The same can be said for Iain Hume's goal for Leicester, shocking
defending allowed him to practically walk the ball into the net, the goals seemed to wake up the defence
of both sides and the match deveoped into one boring stalemate after that.
Saturday 10th September 2005: Cardiff v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-2 win
Up against one of the weaker teams in the division here (Rob you know its true!), although that being
said Cardiff certainly didn't play like a supposed weaker team.
Krisztian Kenesei opened the scoring for us in the 14th minute
This however only served to anger Cardiff and they would hold a 2-1 lead at half time through goals from
Mamadou Diallo (34mins) and Joe Flurry (43 mins).
The team talk at half time was full off abuse, I mean, come on losing to Cardiff? it's not acceptable is
it? Alan Quinn seemed to take the team talk to heart as he levelled the game within two minutes of the
restart. Both teams pushed a probed at each other looking to grab a third and steal all three points,
the goal that would eventually seal the match come for Sheff Utd as Steven Kabba found himself free of
the last defender and kept his cool to beat the keeper from close range.
Tuesday 13th September 2005 : Sheff Utd v Hull : Coca-Cola Championship : 2-0 win
Not a great game here, but an effiecent performance from Sheff Utd to take all three points.
Krisztian Kenesei opened the scoring with a bullet header in the 8th minute. Alan Wright converted a
39th minute spot kick after Kabba was fouled inside the box. We had more chances and could have went on
to score even more in the end, but we done enough which is all I ask for

.
Saturday 17th September 2005 : Sheff Utd v Crewe : 2-2 draw
This one could have went either way, instead it ended all square

Kenny Lunt (yeah I can think of another name for him that rhymes with lunt tbh) opened the scoring for Crewe in the 9th minute. The game was end to end stuff until half time, when finally Sheff Utd's Phil Ifill levelled the game. Crewe's Adie Moses get his ass sent off in the 45 minute not helping his side's cause. Sheff Utd pushed and pushed to take advantage of their numerical advantage and finally the breakthrough was made in the 74th minute when Ade Akinbiyi grabbed the goal \o/.
Things looked all bright and rosey in the Bramall lane garden until my defenders switched off and let Billy Jones in right on the final whiste to throw away two points
Wednesday 21st September 2005 : Sheff Utd v Bristol City : Carling Cup 2nd Round : 2-0 win
Another efficent performance from the Sheff Utd saw them advance to the third round of the Carling cup. Alan Quinn grabbed the opener in the 6th minute. Both teams played decent enough football without creating anything in the way of chances right up until half time.
The second half had no incidents of much note, except for Gary Flitcroft's 55th minute goal \o/
Saturday 24th September 2005: Southampton v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 2-1 loss
This match was always going only to have one winner, and sadly it wasn't Sheff Utd

Kenwyne Jones opened the scoring for Hepburn's saints in the 35th minute. Into the second half and the saints doubled their advantage through Nathan Dyer in the 58th minute. Sheffield United pulled a goal back through an Alan Wright penalty in the 90th minute, but it was far too little far too late.
Tuesday 27th September 2005 : Sheff Utd v Q.P.R : Coca-Cola Championship : 0-0 draw
Dull 0-0 draw erm.........thats all there is to say (seeing as I wasn't here for this game and nothing happened in the match for me to even make stuff up)
Sunday 2nd October 2005 : Leeds v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-0 loss
We got well and truely hammered here then eh?
Richard Cresswell opened the scoring in the 9th minute as he took advantage of a mis-communication in the Sheff Utd defence , Cresswell was on target again in the 22nd minute, although it wasn't panic in the defence this time that allowed him to score, it was pure skill as he took on and beat three players before lobbing the keeper to make the score 2-0 to Leeds. Robbie Blake completed the rout on the stroke of half time

That was it really, come the second half Leeds knew the job was done and they were more than happy to contain us for the last 45mins.
Saturday 15th October 2005 : Sheff Utd v Burnley : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-2 win
Fans didn't have to wait long for the goals to start flowing in this one as Kriztian Kenesei grabbed the opener in the 2nd minute, when then had to wait until the 28th minute for another goal and this time it fell to Burnley as Danny Graham pulled them level. It was that man Krisztain Kenesei who struck again as he converted a 36th minute penalty to restore Sheff Utd's lead.Things went from bad to worse for Burnley as Leigh Rosier was sent off in the 68th minute. Kenesei was on target again as he made it 3-1 in the 69th minute. Danny Graham pulled one back for Burnley in the 79th minute but they were never going to threaten Sheff Utd's hold on the three points.
So there we have it eh? No one gave us a chance at the start of the season but yet we find ourselfs in a playoff spot \o/
If things keep up like this we should continue to stumble towards a playoff place
And yeah I do realise this is utterly late, but due to uni work and then my computer getting the electronic version of Aids, I haven't really been able to do it before now.
