Wolves Yo-Yo form continues Saturday 27th September 2008: Coca-Cola Championship: Fulham v Wolves: 4-3
defeat
An excellent match here at Craven Cottage on this fine autumn afternoon, Paul Wotton had give Wolves the early advantage in the 14th minute but his strike was quickly cancelled out by Kevin Kyle's 18th minute leveler. Fulham were next to strike and it was Kyle who fired them into the lead with his second of the match in the 24th minute. Things were to get even worse for the visitors before the break as Michael Brown made it 3-1 on 37mins and Lee Bowyer drove a dagger into Wolves's heart with the fourth Fulham goal right on the stroke of half time.
After some "inspirational" (mostly swearing punctuated by more swearing) words at half time I sent the boys back out to see if they could rescue something from
the game, even if it was only their pride. Ikechukwo Kalu was the first to act on these words as he hammed home from close range in the 65th minute. Louis Saha pulled us back to within in a goal with his 75th minute strike, but alas we were unable to find the fourth goal we needed in the remaining 15 minutes.
Saturday 11th October 2008: Coca-Cola Championship: Wolves v Ipswich: 2-1 defeat
Lost this one and I lay the blame squarely at that idiot's Kevin McNaughton's door, The defender got himself red cared in the 17th minute leaving us to battle on with 10 men for 73 minutes, thanks for nothing kid. Dean Bowditch gave the visitors the lead in the 36th minute, this was cancelled out by Ikechukwo Kalu's strike right on the stroke of half time, as the second half went on it looked like the ten men might be able to hold out for the draw but sadly for them Bryan Hughes struck in the 90th minute to secure all three points for Ipswich. I firmly believe that had we keep all our players on the pitch for the entire match we would have taken something from the match.
Tuesday 14th October 2008: Preston v Wolves: Coca-Cola Championship : 3-3 draw
First game in three that we had lost, Dave Nugent gave Preston an early lead in the 4th minute, it was last season’s Nigerian goal machine Ikechukwu Uche that pulled us level in the 22nd minute, Darren Ambrose gave us the lead six minutes later. David Healy pulled Preston right back into the game just before half time.
It looked like the second half would remain without a goal until Uche looked to have secured the points for Wolves with his 89th minute goal, Sadly for Wolves Simon Francis had other ideas and struck less than a minute later to level the game......again.
Saturday 18th October 2008: Wolves v Birmingham: Coca-Cola Championship: 2-1
loss
Another fecking loss eh? bah!
Benji De Ceulaer gave Birmingham the lead with his 27th minute strike. We offered up
nothing in the way of resistance for the rest of the first half. Alex cooke pulled Wolves back into the game with his 64th minute goal (question time: who in the blue hell is Alex Cooke and how the hell did he get into my team?). It looked to be heading for the draw before Giovanni Torre struck in the 90th minute (second game in a row we've lost a 90th minute goal) to steal the points.
Saturday 28th October 2008: Sunderland v Wolves: Coca-Cola Championship: 3-1
defeat
Another loss, we really suck.
Ikechukwu Uche gave us the lead in the 8th minute and things were looking bright for us until Danny Butterfield (again who is he and how did he get here) got himself sent off in the 30th minute, the numbers game quickly caught up with my lot and it wasn't long before Sunderland were level though Al Bangrua (43mins).
As the second half progressed it was obvious there was only going to be one winner of this match and it wasn't us. Stephen Elliott struck in the 56th minute to give Sunderland the lead that their play deserved, Elliot was on hand again 11 minutes later to give us even more cause for concern and he made the scored 3-1.
Rubbish really and not acceptable.
Tuesday 28th October 2008: Wolves v Leeds: Coca-Cola Championship: 1-1 draw
Can't buy a win at this point, and starting to get really worried now.
Pretty rubbish game this one with not a lot to report (thank god)
Ikechukwu Uche gave us a first half lead in the 28th minute, nothing else happened in the first period. A pretty dull second half looked like it was going to end without a goal until Simon Walton struck in the 82nd minute to give Leeds a share of the points.
Sunday 1st November 2008: Wolves v Reading: Coca-Cola Championship: 3-0 loss
Have we been relegated yet?
Seriously we can't let his go on much longer or we will be!
Emile Heskey struck in the 20th minute to set Reading on their way, ex Liverpool diddy Dietmar Hamann netted his spot kick just before the stroke of half time.
The second half was a far more subdued affair with the only goal coming in the 89th minute from that big useless donkey Emile Heskey.
bah!
Saturday 15th November 2008: Hartlepool v Wolves: Coca-Cola Championship: 2-0 win
OMG! a win! a win!
After the shocking performances of previous weeks we finally managed to get back to winning ways in this one!
First half was a dull affair with neither side creating much in the way of chances and twas a fair reflection of the game that both sides went in at the break on level terms.
It was us the picked up the pace in the second half and took the game by the scruff of the neck, we got our reward in the 65th minute when Ikechukwo Kalu finally made the breakthrough we so desperately craved. Romeo Castelen made sure of all three points when he got up at the back post to head home in the 91st minute.
Saturday 27th November 2008: Wolves v Sheff Utd : Coca-cola Championship: 1-0 win
Two wins on the bounce, what’s going on here then!?!
Up against my ex employers here and I badly wanted to see them leave Molineux with nothing! This game was a very tight affair as neither side wanted to give anything away or take any chances, after a very even first half both sides went in level, which was probably a fair reflection on the match. In the second half the game opened up more and Romeo Castelen finally struck in the 84th minute, this solitary strike would eventually prove to be the winning goal.
Saturday 29th November 2008: Coventry v Wolves: Coca-Cola Championship: 1-0 win
Manager Steff Browning was called away for this one and it fell to assistant Stuart Gray to take charge, it appears the man knows his stuff as we eventually over powered Coventry though a 77th minute James Clarke goal.
Saturday 6th December 2008: Wolves v Millwall: Coca-Cola championship : 2-1 win
Four back to back wins \o/
After creating numerous chances in the first half Romeo Castelen was finally able to take advantage of one in the 43rd minute to gives us the lead. The second half was more of the same with us pressing the game and Millwall on the back foot. Ikechukwo Kalu doubled our advantage with his 67th minute strike. We seemed to be cruising to victory in this one until Linvoy Primus got himself sent off in the 85th minute Jody Morris quickly pulled Millwall back into the game, Millwall pressed and pressed for the final four minutes but there just wasn't enough time for them to find a way back into the game.
Tuesday 9th December 2008: Wolves v Doncaster: Coca-Cola Championship: 5-1 win
Don't let the score line fool you in this one, Doncaster actually had
more shots on goal than we did in this one, more of ours found the net though.
Damien Delaney sent us on our way on the half our mark with his 30 yard effort. Ikechukwo Kalu doubled our advantage right on the stroke of half time. Into the second half and we started as we meant to go on as Kalu grabbed his second of the game three minutes after the restart. Loaning signing Freddy Eastwood, on a 3 month loan from Premiership side Cardiff would finish off the scoring for Wolves with double (66 mins and 77mins) to make it 5-0 with 13 mins remaining. Osahon Ebiogbe grabbed a consolation goal for Doncaster in the 86th minute.
Saturday 13th December 2008: Plymouth v Wolves: Coca-Cola Championship: 3-1 win
A very tight first half in this game saw both sides create chances but neither side was unable to take advantage in the first spell of play.
The game certainly lived up in the second half though as Jamie Laird put the ball past his own keeper five minutes into the second half to give Wolves the lead.
Freddy Eastwood make it two in the 65th minute and we looked to be on easy street at this point, Chris Zebroski pulled one back for Plymouth in the 71st minute to give them away back into the game. Ikechuwkwo Kalu made sure of all three points for us with his 90th minute header \o/
Saturday 20th December 2008: Wolves v Portsmouth: Coca-Cola Championship: 3-1 win
Second placed Portsmouth were runaway favorites for this game and they looked to assert their automatic promotion place. Sadly for them things didn't quite go the way the bookmakers suggested it would go.
Darren Ambrose gave us an early lead in the 14th minute. We have every right to be a little disappointed only going in at half time 1-0 up as we created enough chances to be three up. Gary O'Neil got Portsmouth level in the 54th minute, and no doubt many people expected us to buckle here and the floodgates to open, this never happened and Paul Wotton put us back in the lead just after the hour mark. Romeo Castelen secured all three points with his 83rd minute long range effort \o/
