Blades manager builds for the new season
After a quite frankly terrible season last time around that saw us finish behind Cardiff in the league (Cardiff ffs! ) I was obvious that our defence was going to need strengthened this time around and I made it my top priority to bring in a new backline before the start of the new season.

We did play some friendly matches but I was so busy looking for new players that I left Eric Cantona in charge for all of them so lets just say we won them all
So on to the important business of the new season then!
Saturday 5th August 2006 : Sheff Utd v Watford : Coca-Cola Championship : 4-1 win
A new season and a new look team and it was new signing from Cardiff Robbie Fowler that opened the scoring with a goal on the 20 minute mark.
Right on the stroke of half time Steven Kabba doubled the advantage after getting on the end of a great cross from Danny Mills. For the bulk of the second half nothing much happened, until the final 6 minutes! Steven Kabba grabbed his second goal of the game in the 84th minute before Darius Henderson pulled one back for Watford in the 87th minute, Kabba was on hand in the dying seconds of the game fire in Sheff Utd's 4th and secure his hat trick.
Tuesday 8th August 2006 : Sheff Utd v Huddersfield : Coca-Cola Championship : 4-0 win
Bang on goal scoring form here was we outclassed Huddersfield from the first whistle to the last, Robbie Fowler opened the scoring (again) in the 16th minute, Alan Quinn added a second 2 minutes later, we have several good chances to increase our lead for the break but at least 2 goals is better than none. Paul Ifill was on target in the 57th minute as he effectivley put the game out of Huddersfield's reach and to add futher insult to injury Steven Kabba grabbed the 4th in the 64th minute, at this point we turned cruise control on and just saw out the remainder of the match \o/
Saturday 12th Augsust 2006: Coventry v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 1-0 win
A very tense game as both sides had equally great chances to secure all three points but it looked as if no one was going to take all three points in this one until Robbie Fowler poppped up unmarked in the Coventry box in the 93rd minute and rifled the ball past the helpless Coventry keeper to ensure Sheffield United returned to Bramall lane with maximum ponits.
Saturday 19th August 2006 : Wigan v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 1-1 draw
This one was tale of two goals, one very early and one very late.
Henri Camara gave Wigan the lead after only 8 minutes and it looked as if that solitary strike would be enough to give Wigan the points but it was that man Robbie Folower again as he headed home with 3 minutes remaining to give the blades a share of the points.
Wednesday 23rd August 2006 : Mansfield v Sheff Utd : Carling Cup Round One : 2-1 win
A tense affair in this one that saw the result hang in the balance for almost the entire 90 minutes.
Robbie Fowler opened the scoring in the 4th minute scoring for the third game in a row. Mansfield then went on to pressure us for the rest of the match, totally going against the pre match predictions and looked like they had forced extra time when Robert Davidson pulled the game level in the final minute of the match, Sadly for Mansfield Robbie Fowler took advantage of the remaining 30 seconds of the match to grab the winner with what was the last kick of the ball \o/
Saturday 26th August 2006: Ipswich v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 0-0 draw
What can i say here?
Most boring 0-0 draw ever!
A couple of pluses though, a clean sheet and still unbeaten.
Sunday 10th September 2006: West Brom v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 2-2 draw
A tough match here as we faced up to recently relegated West Brom, and I would class a here as a fairly good result.
Both sides had a few scrambled chances here and there but nothing really clear up before Nathan Ellington opened the scoring five minutes before half time. West Brom took their lead in with them at half time and were looking good for the win on the strength of their first half performance. Paul Ifill pulled us level in the 56th minute and it has to be said that the goal came against the run of play. Gary Flitcroft gave us a shock lead in the 62nd minute as we looked to take the game to West Brom. Jonathan Greening pulled West Brom level in the 74th minute bringing West Brom right back into the match. Both sides had their chances in the final 15 minutes but weren't able to take advantage of them.
Tuesday 12 September 2006 : Sheff Utd v Burnley : Coca-Cola Championship : 0-0 draw
Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Another 0-0 sleeper
Saturday 16th September 2006: Fulham v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 0-0 draw
Another bloody non scoring draw!
Although if we are giving an honest assessment here Fulham should have won this match about 4 or 5 nil, they played us off the park from start to finish and we could have had no complaints if he had been hammered.
So there it is a decent start to the season without setting the division alight, looking good for a playoff place if we can keep this up
