I took over brentford with a certain amount of trepidation, with no money at all to spend and the board only releasing 60% of any transfer funds. My squad had a solid look although there appeared to be no decent goalkeeper on board so that was the first thing to address.I managed to get Lenny Pidgeley from Chelsea and Martin Olejnik from Aston Villa on season long loans,so that sorted that for a while.Meanwhile 4 players were shown the exit for an incoming total of 80k of which i would get 48k,a little of this was spent on winger Leandre Griffit from Southampton,I decided to leave it there as I wanted to see what actual strength I had.
The highlight of the pre season was a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, this was certainly encouraging and meant I went into the season proper with excitement and a lot of hope. BRENTFORD 2-1 MK DONS
A great start as I believe the Dons could be useful, after a dominant first half,we went in front through a Alex Rhodes penalty. However Taymaz Rad lifted his Dons side and they soon levelled, and the game then was end to end before Scott Fitzgerald headed home the winner. BRENTFORD 0-1 YEOVIL
After the great start this was a let down,we just never got going, did have a goal disallowed but probably didnt deserve a point. SWANSEA 1-4 BRENTFORD
A great performance,we looked full of goals and in Alex Rhodes,we had a striker who was a threat throughout,he scored 2 first half goals and after the break Michael Turner and an O`Connor penalty completed the scoring,Swanseas reply coming from a very dangerous Lee Trundle.
After our first session im pleased with the start,we have a good spine and have 1 or 2 players that could be a cut above this level.
After the lucky draw for teams, it turned out that Taymaz Rad was given his hometown to manage MK Dons. With the squad in need of major strengthening and the total lack of funds, Mr. Rad got on his way to making things happen.
His first priority was to raise some much needed finances, not to be able to spend in the transfer market but rather to help the balances to stay out of the red due to the hefty 24k per month debt demands. After some ambitious friendly approaches to some elite clubs, Mr Rad showed just how much he is respected in the footballing world with firendlies arranged with Fulham, Man city, Middelsborough and most impressively of them all, a televised friendly against Juventus at home. All this helped to raise 828 K and seemed to make sure of MK Dons financial survival for at least one more season.
Out of the massive amount raised, chairman peter winkleman demanded for none to be spent on players and so began Mr Rad's foray into the transfer ,market pulling off some amazing free signing notably Sam Togwell, Gavin Strachan and the ever youthful Mike Stockwell at a youthful age of 40.
After looking through the squad Mr Rad saw no need to let any players go as he saw some very hot prospects in his reserves one being Serge Makofo who strangely seemed to be known worldwide even though he was yet to make a 90 minute game for the full team.
Taymaz Rad wasted not time in bringing quality staff to help him on his 5-year-plan (more of this later) with the likes of Lee Zabek coming in and contract extensionsto the beautitiful Rebecca as physio, Mr Rad lived up to his womanising nature.
In his first press conference Taymaz Rad brought about laughter and mockery from all angles of the press as he outlined his 5-year-plan. This being to win the European Champions League in 5 years time, this would mean back to back promotions for 2 years, and a 3 year period to qualify and win the champs league. Although many thought this to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, to supporters it sounded like a man on a mission.
So the season kicked off after Taymaz Rad managed to persuade a number of high profile players to reject contract extensions with their clubs and move to the National Hockey Stadium under the Bosman ruling, the most notable of these being Colin Healy of sunderland and former Leeds hitman Clyde Winhjard.
BRENTFORD 2-1 MK DONS
After great expectations in the start of the season MK Dons went down in a somewhat flat performance particularly with the midfield and attackers lacking the runs and angles. After a penalty to put Brentford ahead, a team talk was needed going into half time 1-0 down, and Taymaz Rad inspired the players for the next 10 mins to show what they can do with some lovely football and the pressure finally counting with Izale Mcleods tidy finish, but it was not to be as Brentford lead straight after kickoff and kept their lead with no danger. A dissapointing start.
MK Dons 1-0 Bournemouth
Something of a miracle performance from the Dons Goalie and defenders and a touch of time wasting saw them keep an early lead for much of a game where bournemouth had all the pressure with clinical finishing being the difference. Vital to gain 3 points.
MK Dons 3-1 Chesterfield
Coming back from 1-0 down to make this into something of an easy win was thanks to a superb performance from every team member giving their all against a chesterfield side which showed no real quality other then the goal and were outclassed in every department. Finally it looked as though Taymaz Rad's team had found their feet and gelled with his policy of putting faith into his youth raising hopes in Milton Keynes of the future.
Toontoon & Spidey Going Nowhere, a Bhutanese manager of no repute came into Doncaster without speaking one word of English to find that he had £170k to spend, despite being sorely tempted to grab the money and run off to Bhutan to live a life of luxury he decided to stick it out. Having swapped jobs with MK Dons manager Taymaz Rad, Toontoon felt this was the right decision as he always liked ferrets.
Toontoon decided to bring in Kenny Cooper on loan from Man United and then he made his masterstroke of a signing, George Ndah for £3k. Who even after such a sort period is already becoming the season's top signing.
Going into the first game Toontoon faced a tough trip away to tranmere, despite Tranmere going one up, Toontoon threatened the Donny lads with a month of mountain climbing in the Himalayas wearing their jockstraps, this soon sorted the players out and two goals from Heffernan ensured that Donny Rovers were on their way.
After the game Bill Shankly made some rather nice comments about Toontoon, as Toontoon was in a good mood, and as tranmere ran the team close he responded in kind, only to be met with what he soon found out was typical English humour i.e. you two are engaged, Toontoon has told the other managers that while he was being nice, they should buy a hat just in case!
Next up came Bristol C, a very tight game apart from the fact that the Bristol manager decided to play a goalie up front, who promptly went into fm history by getting the first ever one rating. George Ndah and Lewis Guy inspired the team to a 4-2 victory and Rovers we're chuffed as the bookies favourites for the league supporters were crying into their cider all night bemoaning their managers attempted tactical masterstroke
Finally came a tight match against Barnsley which Toontoon felt they were rather fortunate to win 4-2, despite being in the UK for only a short period of time Toontoon has already picked up the "WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE" chant.
So after 3 games, a manager from one of the minnows of world football is already becoming the pied piper of Doncaster Rovers, who knows where he will take them next
Daniel Brett, a virtually unknown manager took over as the boss at Bournemouth, and promised big things to his chairman, players and most importantly, the fans.
As the club are in a poor financial state, Brett had to make only loan signings to boost his squad, so the arrival of such big young talents such as Portsmouth goalkeeper Andrea Guatelli, and Arsenal versatile midfielder Sebastian Larsson made the management team very happy.
The pre-season results all ended well for Bournemouth, staying undefeated, but unfortunately the same could not be said for the league performances, as no points were claimed during the opening three games of the season, leaving the cherries in a lowly 21st place:
Bournemouth 1 - 2 Bradford: We played very well in this match and were unlucky not to come away with a point. Outclassed in the second half, but top-of-table quality in the first 45.
Bournemouth 0 - 1 MK Dons: Should have got at least one goal with the amount of chances produced, but with the early exit of star striker James Hayter due to injury, the goals werent going in.
Swindon 3 - 0 Bournemouth: Bournemouth were totally outplayed in this game, after a Rory Fallon hattrick. Could have ended much worse after a clear breakdown in communication.
Hopefully results will start going our way in the future, and we may be able to claw our way back to the mid table spots.
