Moves In The Market

Mido signed for Steff's Portsmouth for 3.5m
Greg Halford has been loaned to QPR for 6months as part of the feeder club deal to improve his fitness after a long term injury.
Luka Modric comes in from Dinamo for 3m
Tom Huddlestone has been loaned to Glasgow Rangers for the season to help him get first team football.
Robbie Keane was sold to Ajax after a argument with Perry over tactics for 7.25m
Anthony Vanden Borre left Anderlecht to join Tottenham in a deal which sees the belgian side collect 3.4m
Tommy Forecast goes on loan to Grimsby Town for 6months as back up.
Michael Staunton joins QPR as part of the feeder club set up and it will ensure him first team football.
Clint Dempsey comes to England from New England Revolution in the MLS for 2.6m
Per Ciljan Skjelbred comes in from Norwiegan side Rosenborg for 1.7m
Steed Malbranque leaves England and returns to french side Monaco for 2.3m
Anthony Gardner went on loan to Tony's Newcastle side to help him out.

Finally the season starts

Tottenham 3 Aston Villa 2
WOW is all I can say what a comeback by the spurs, Adu put his new side ahead with only 4mins on the clock, and then another newcomer Higuain made it 2-0 after 13mins, Lennon made it 2-1 on 53mins and then spurs newboy Zaccardo made it 2-2 before Berbatov made it 3-2 on 73mins.
Attendance 36243
MOM Clint Dempsey 8

Man City 2 Tottenham 2

This one again started bad for Tottenham as Samaras gave City the lead on 6mins, he then added a 2nd on 40mins, Jenas then added the first for spurs on 58mins before Lennon broke the hearts of the City faithful when he equalised on 66mins to earn a draw.
Attendance 47988
MOM Aaron Lennon 8

Tottenham 0 Wigan Ath 1

With the sky cameras at White Hart Lane for this one Tottenham expected to come away with a easy 3points but Wigan spoiled that thought with a fantastic strike from Dave Cotterill on 21mins to seal or should I say steal the win.
Attendance 31076
MOM Leighton Baines 8

At the moment finding it hard to get a tactic and settle the team with it stay tuned to see what happens next session from WHL

The Manchester City Update

Welcome back to another edition of my regular update, where I will try to keep you all well informed of all the events here at the City of Manchester Stadium. With the league season due to get under way in a few weeks it has been a busy time here, with transfers, staff ins and outs, friendlies and of course my tactical tweaks.

The Ins and Outs

Well first of all we have some personell changes here at the stadium. I believe it is very important to have top coaches to go with our top facilities and I have been busy securing the services of such people. A number of new faces have been added to the staff to help with the youth encouragemnt. I am hoping this will lead to an increase in the number of top quality players we will develop here.

As for playing staff, bad news from the Home Office, Lebohang Mokoena has been denied a work permit for playing in England. This is a great shame as all involved with Man City were excited about the prospect of having him here, he has the potential to be a star in the Premiere League. I have decided however to bring him to the club, in the hope that I can persuade the home office to issue a work permit. In the meantime I am looking for a loan club with no work permit regulations where he can perhaps get some experience.

New Feeder Clubs

With the arrival of Lebohang with no work permit I have been trying to persuade the board to sort out a link with another club perhaps in Belgium where he can play with no permit. Over the past month or so they have come up with a number of possibilities, however none of them are particularly exciting. In all, 2 clubs have signed a link with us. Firstly is Spanish league B2 side Badalona, who would be able to play Lebohang without a permit, however as expected he has no desire to play for such a team.

A second attempt for a bigger team resulted in the addition of Greenock Morton to our list of affiliates. Another low league team, with work permit regulations. So looks like Lebohang may be left to rot, a great shame.

The final friendly preparations

at Colchester won 1-0. Goal scorer was Joey Barton with Micah Richards picking up the man of the match award.

at Oldham won 2-0. Goals from Samaras and Stephen Ireland were enough to see off Oldham, with Samaras getting the man of the match award.

And thats that, the friendlies are over, the players are in, the new season is closing in. With the opening game fast approaching the bookies have announced their odds for the title. Understandably we have been ranked at 100-1. Despite having the belief that we will do well this year, I seriously doubt we have what it takes to challenge the big boys of Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal for the title. So 100-1 seems right to me.

The board have also decided to let me know what they think of my chances for success, and they too have no doubt we will struggle in this league, telling me that they Expect me to battle bravely against relegation. The fans however have a little more optimism and have told me that they Expect a safe mid-table finish.

So there we have it, pre-season is officially over and its time for the real deal, starting with a trip to Watford.

The English Premier League: Season 2006/2007

First on the agenda in this new season is a trip to a team I expect us to beat if we really do aim to stay in the EPL. Watford were the hosts and here is how it went down.

Watford 1 - 2 Man City
1 HT 1
Watford - goal (4)
Man City - own goal (39),Samaras (64)

A poor start to the game with Watford going ahead after only 4 minutes with a goal from a set-piece. We did fight back however and forced the Watford defence into a rushed back-pass which bounced over the keepers foot and into the net. So the game was level at half time, despite City being the better team. It only took 20 minutes of the second half for City to grab the win they deserved, with Samaras getting his goal tally off the mark. City saw out the rest of the game with no trouble, a comfortable win.

Attendance - 19464
MotM - Samaras

Our first win of the season and I am delighted it came in our first game. We looked good and deserved the win. The downside to the game was the injuries to Joey Barton who is out for 3 to 4 weeks with a fractured jaw, and Michael Silberbauer who gashed his head and will require 2 to 3 weeks to recover.

After that win we sit 8th in the league but will now face 2 tricky home ties against Rob's Spurs and Sandy's Villa.

Man City 2 - 2 Tottenham Hotspurs
2 HT 0
Man City - Samaras (6,39)
Tottenham - Jenas (58),Lennon (65)

Spurs conceded 2 early goals in their last game and I went out with an aim to doing the same again. After only 3 minutes Robbie Fowler was denied by the post. But 3 minutes later Samaras found the back of the net. He added a second 5 minutes before half time. So at half time it looked like the game was over, but anyone who watched Spurs' last game would know not to count on that. They came out of the gate with an aim to turn the game around. And after 58 minutes Jenas pulled 1 back. Only 7 minutes later Aaron Lennon grabbed the equaliser. The City fans were gutted. Another comeback for Spurs and more sloppy defending from City.

Attendance - 47988
MotM - Lennon

Dissapointing to lose the lead in the last game, but I am happy that we are scoring goals. We were by far the better team in the first half, and I think the players lost their concentration for the second and that allowed spurs back in. After that draw we move up to 6th place.

Man City 0 - 1 Aston Villa
0 HT 0
Aston Villa - Agbonlahor (73)

Another home game and the hopes were high for another win. But it wasn't to be in what can only be described as a **** poor game. The first half was pretty even with both teams doing very little. Possession 50-50 and shots on target a grand total of 1 for villa. The second half wasn't much better with City not getting a single shot on target. Villa finally found the target after 73 minutes and that was enough for the win. 'nuff said.

Attendance - 47975
MotM - Boume

So a dissapointing performance to end the session and we now sit 7th in the league. And it won't be easy to improve on that any time soon, with games against Wigan(A), Liverpool(H) and Chelsea (A) coming up.

The draw for the league cup 2nd round was also made recently and we will be facing a trip to Championship side Luton. A game I hope to win as I aim to progress as far as possible in the cups.

So thats it for this edition. I'm David Johnston and you stay classy FMO forum readers.

Rubbish, I can't edit my posts, and my matchday scores look terrible. Didn't know I couldn't put spaces in my bold tags .

Will come up with something more appealing for the next update.

The Rovers Record - Great start made by the rookie!!!!

Ok so it has only been three games into the managerial life of new Blackburn gaffer Andrew Hepburn but he is doing superbly well so far. His team sit top of the Premiership and are playing some great football to go with it. It's early days but after Hepburn's quite bizarre press conference he has went about his business quietly and his players are repsonding to his methods, thought to include his players all being given a copy of this computer game Football Manager.

Pre season saw not a lot happening at Blackburn. Hepburn new all about his players strengths and weaknesses already and went about trying to motivate them before, during and after the matches with his list of half time team talks, taken from Football Manager. It's all quite bizarre at Ewood Park at the moment.

On the transfer front Hepburn desperately needed a defensive midfielder and he managed to capture Thomas Sivok from Sparta Prague for £3.5 million. Hepburn bought him during his time playing Football Manager and he turns out to be a superstar so he thought £3.5 million was a bargain. That proved to be his only signing of the summer due to financial restraints at the club.

It was onto the pre season friendlies as his team got their match sharpness up, ready for the new season. Pre season saw them travel to Scotland for a few games and then back to Ewood for a couple and then another game at Kidderminster. Here is how those games went:

Brechin - (A) Sat 8th July 2006
Final Score - Brechin 0 v 16 Blackburn

Clyde - (A) Tues 11th July 2006
Final Score - Clyde 0 v 2 Blackburn

Livingston - (A) Fri 14th July 2006
Final Score - Livingston 1 v 8 Blackburn

Celtic - (H) Fri 21st July 2006
Final Score - Blackburn 4 v 1 Celtic

Slavia Prague - (H) Wed 26th July 2006
Final Score - Blackburn 2 v 0 Slavia Prague

Kidderminster - (A) Sat 29th July 2006
Final Score - Kidderminster 0 v 8 Blackburn

A fantastic pre season that saw Blackburn score a hatful of goals and playing some fantastic attacking football. The fans were getting excited about this new brand of football that Hepburn has brought to Ewood Park. They were just hoping they could take that form into the Premiership, ready for the big kick off and the serious business gets under way.

The season opener for Blackburn saw them travel to the Madejski Stadium to face newly promoted Reading who won the Championship at a canter last season. Lets see how it panned out:

Premiership

Reading - (A) Sat 19th August 2006

A tough test for new manager Hepburn and he knew Reading would be more than up for this to prove themselves worthy of a palce amongst the big boys. Reading got off tot he best possible start after Leroy Lita fired them ahead after only two minutes. This seemed to wake Blackburn up and they were soon down the other end in search of an equaliser. It came after fifteeen minutes when new signing Benni McCarthy headed them level. After that goal Blackburn never looked back and a double from Brett Emerton grabbed a double, one in either half saw Blackburn secure three points come full time. It could have been more but Blackburn could not take those chances but they were worthy winners in the end. Hepburn was ecstatic at full time as were the fans.

Final Score - Reading 1 v 3 Blackburn
Goals - Reading - Lita (2)
Goals - Blackburn - McCarthy (15), Emerton (22,76)
Att - 23509
MOTM - Brett Emerton (Blackburn)

Premiership

Blackburn v West Ham - (H) Tues 22nd August 2006

It was Hepburn's first official match in charge of Blackburn at home and there was a packed house inside Ewood Park to witness it. They welcomed West Ham and new manager Paul Rouch to Ewood park but the game turned out to be a one sided affair as Blackburn tore West Ham apart. A double from Benni McCarthy and one from Emerton were enough to secure another three points for Blackburn.

Final Score - Blackburn 3 v 0 West Ham
Goals - Blackburn - McCarthy (8,55), Emerton (62)
Att - 31350
MOTM - Ryan Nelsen (Blackburn)

Premiership

Portsmouth - (A) Sat 26th August 2006

Next for Blackburn was a trip to the south coast to take on big spending Portsmouth at Fratton Park and the first meeting between to Scots rookie managers in Hepburn and Steff Browning, just appointed manager of Portsmouth. An entertaining that Balkburn dominated for spells and then Pompey would come right back into the game to dominate. Blackburn opened the scoring through Jason Roberts after only five minutes and could have been further ahead before Pompey scored an equaliser from Mido. In the second half it was end to end stuff but neither team could find a winner with Jason Roberts missing Blackburn's best chances. It was just not meant to be for Blackburn today but Hepburn was more than pleased with the result at full time.

Final Score - Portsmouth 1 v 1 Blackburn
Goals - Portsmouth - Mido (37)
Goals - Blackburn - Roberts (5)
Att - 19789
MOTM - Brad Friedel (Blackburn)

So a great start to the season for Blackburn aganst some tough opposition but they have done well and they are top or now and who knows what might happen.

Euro Cup
2nd Qualifying Round 1st Leg

Vardar 1 vs 2 Newcastle
Vardar Scorer: Scott Parker own goal (18)
Newcastle Scorers: Giuseppe Rossi (38 & 56)
Attendance: 5,024
MOM: Damien Duff (Newcastle)
Good game with Rossi taking centre stage and earning himself a brace after Scott Parker made a silly error in the box. Duff commanded the wings quite well aswell, good chance at going through with the 2 away goals.

Season Begins

Premiership

Bolton 1 vs 0 Newcastle
Bolton Scorer: Nicolas Anelka (40)
Attendance: 28,458
MOM: Tal Ben-Haim (Bolton)
Newcastle Injuries: Titus Bramble (23)
Definitely a crap start to the season although we dominated the match we just could get past the Bolton Defence. Big Sam’s negative tactics achieved their aim and they got a silly goal to win the match.

Euro Cup
2nd Qualifying Round 2nd Leg

Newcastle (4)2 vs 0(1) Vardar
Newcastle Scorers: Scott Parker (10) & Shola Ameobi (25)
Attendance: 30,033
MOM: Shola Ameobi (Newcastle)
Great match to watch and now Newcastle are threw to the next round of the Euro Cup via two goals from Parker and Ameobi.

Premiership

Fulham 1 vs 2 Newcastle
Fulham Scorer: Claus Jensen (83)
Newcastle Scorer: Giuseppe Rossi (1 & 19)
MOM: Anthony Gardner (Newcastle)
Attendance: 22,478
Red Cards: Bjorn Runstrom (Fulham) (21)
Good first win for us and Rossi proved I was right to extend his loan deal. Anthony Gardner was excellent on his debut after signing on loan for the season from Tottenham, he did enough to earn himself a MOM award.

Newcastle 2 vs 0 Everton
Newcastle Scorers: Giuseppe Rossi (45) & Obafemi Martins (46)
Attendance: 52,344
MOM: Titus Bramble (Newcastle)
[i]Another good match with the defence acting like a solid unit soaking up the Everton attacks, Bramble commanded the defence well to earn himself a man of the match award. Both my strikers seem to be in form at the moment as each scored with a minute of each other to earn us the 3 points.[i]

Euro Cup
1st Round 1st Leg

Newcastle 5 vs 0 Derry City
Newcastle Scorers: Obafemi Martins (4, 11 & 30), Giuseppe Rossi (26) & James Milner (90)
Attendance: 30,298
MOM: Obafemi Martins (Newcastle)
Newcastle Injuries: Obafemi Martins (57)
A sensational win for Newcastle who were totally dominant during the whole match. Martins is definitely going to be staying here while I am in charge as he is leathal. Only downside was Martins being injured. Rossi and Milner added goals to Martins’ Hat Trick to rub salt into Derry City’s wounds.

Premiership

West Ham 4 vs 1 Newcastle
West Ham Scorers: Yossi Benayoun (1), Daniel Gabbidon (18) & Carlos Tevez (31 & 82)
Newcastle Scorer: Nolberto Solano (42)
Attendance: 35,473
MOM: Carlos Tevez (West Ham)
Absolutely crap is the only way I can describe how Newcastle performed, they were just outclassed by West Ham’s tactics, the game was over in 30 minutes.

Premiership Position at the end of sessions: 13th

The Manchester City Update

Well I'm back again with another update from Manc Land. Unfortunately not much to report this time round. With the European Championship qualifiers taking place there was not much to do. The players enjoyed their weekend off, and witnessed England humiliate Andorra 15-0.

Training continued as normal, and with no money to spend there was no additional additions to the squad. We have a big squad already and I think we have enough cover for each position.

Now on to the exciting stuff. Back to league action now and first off is a trip to Wigan.

Premiership

Wigan 0 - 0 Manchester City

In perhaps the most boring game of all time no team was able to find their way to goal, literally. The first half passed without a single shot on goal for either team. The second half got underway much as the first ended, with absolutely nothing happening. The game finally kicked to life in the last few minutes with both teams managing a few shots on goal and both having good chances to win the game. But ultimately the game ended in a boring 0-0 draw.

Att: 25120
MotM: Dunne

So a boring draw there, but on the plus side it was my first clean sheet of the season, now we just have to work on creating some more chances. At the end of the day we are expected to avoid relegation, so any points away from home for me is a good result. The point was enough to keep us in 9th place.

Next it's one of the big 4 to visit Manchester. The mighty reds will be trying to bring their poor start to the season to an end, after losing badly to Spurslast week.

Premiership

Manchester City 1 - 1 Liverpool

___Samaras (49)_______Kuyt (67)

The first half got underway with City going all out for the win. Within the first half an hour they had already had 3 goal mouth scrambles and the reds were lucky to go in still level at half time. Into the second half and again City look like the better team and after only 4 minutes Samaras gets on the end of a long clearance and makes the counter attacking system played by Man City pay off. We continued to outplay Liverpool making more and more chances and having a few cleared off the line. On the 65th minute DeMarcus Beasley made a great run down the wing, cut inside and slotted the ball home. But the goal was ruled out by the linesman for some unknown reason. And 2 minutes later Liverpool made us pay, Dirk Kuyt grabbed the equaliser in a rare Liverpool attack. Still not giving up City battled hard and grabbed what they thought was the winner on 87 minutes through Samaras, but once again the goal was ruled out due to offside. And so Liverpool escape with a point despite the quality display from City.

Att: 47924
MotM: Reina

Dissaointed not to have won the last game, but had someone offered me a point from Liverpool beforehand I would have taken it, so no complaints here. Its a testament to how well we played that the Liverpool goalie was awarded the man of the match award. And I'm sure had it not been for him we would have won the game by a good margin.

I think if we can continue to play the way we did today for the rest of the season then we will be fighting more for a place in Europe rather than against relegation. But for now we sit in 9th place with 1 win, 3 draws and 1 defeat.

Until next time...........

West Ham Announce Feeder Club Link!

West ham have announced a new link with Dagenham and Redbridge. The deal involves an annual friendly between the 2 clubs, an annual undisclosed payment to Dagenham and Redbridge and the opportunity to send players on loan to Dagenham, and Redbridge. West Ham have sent three of their most promising youngster to Dagenham and Redbridge already, The Striker Hogan Ephraim, Kyle Reid, a bright left winger and Tony Stokes a useful attacking central midfielder

Transfer News

Paul Rouch identified that the squad was bit on the thin side and would need bolstering . With a limited budget this meant that Rouch had to scour the world for some quality players out of contract. The first signing for Rouch was Paraguayan Roberto Miguel Acuna who had been released by Deportivo. The Greek Vasillis Tsiartas was next in, along with Spanish defensive midfielder Josep Guardiola and Rouch hopes to utilise some of their experience in his young squad. Khalilou Fadiga. The Senegalese left sided midfielder was the next addition to the squad swiftly followed by Ronald Waterreus who was brought to solve the goalkeeping crisis, with both Roy Carroll and Robert Green out injured for the start of the season. The final signing before the season started was Billy Jones from Crewe and he cost a measly £850k.

Preseason Report

A mixed bag of results in preseason foor the Hammers, starting impressively with a 3-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday and two creditable 1-1 home draws against Borrussia Munchen Gladbach (I bet they just love it when the fans start a chant of “Give me a B…..” ) and Lyon. This was followed by a disappointing 1-0 away defeat to Club Brugge and then a very exciting, high scoring, but ultimately losing away trip to Heerenveen which finished 3-4. The final game was a 3-2 warm up win against the reserves at Upton Park
