Pettigrew Jets into Portman Road
Today David Sheepshanks announced that Jim Magilton has left the club by "mutual consent" after being put on a months gardening leave over the summer.
David Sheepshanks moved quick to hire a new manager when he announced that he had hired a young coach who came up the youth ranks with Heart of Midlothian. His name is Sandy Pettigrew, he spent 7 years at Tyncastle but after speaking up about who is picking the team at Hearts Vladamir Romanov sacked him straight away. Pettigrew has a good experience after working under John Robbertson, George Burley, John McGlynn and Valdas Ivanaskaus. Pettigrew was to hold a press conference later on today with members of the press.

Chairman David Sheepshanks " Here is a brief statement of what has happened at the club today. Jim Magilton has left the club by mutual consent and will be replaced with up and coming manager Sandy Pettigrew who will take control as of tommorrow morning. People present at this press conference are myself and Sandy Pettigrew. We are here for a short time to please make your question direct and to the point. Thank you.
Sky Sports : Sandy, what do you think you can achieve at this club with your lack of actual managerial experience ?
Sandy Pettigrew : Well I know I have not managed before but I feel I have leared alot from my time at Hearts and I'm ready to step up to this level. I would like to take this time to thank David for appointing me as manager of such a great club. I think with stability and hard work we get challenge the other chmpionship clubs for a place in the top to and get back to where this club belongs.
BBC Sports : There was alot of speculation that you would join a few other clubs like Reading or Manchester City, why did this not happen ?
Sandy Pettigrew : I always thought Ipswich was the club for me. The potential here is great and I feel that myself and David get on very well and will make this club a great sucess and hopefully one day be champions of Europe.
Sky Sports : Have you been given a substancial budget to spend on new players and what do you think of the current squad you have got ?
Sandy Pettigrew : I think we have a good core squad and I'm not willing to speak about how much money we have to spend. I think with a few additions this club will be ready for the premiership.
BBC Sports : David there were a few names thrown in the hat for this job like Mike Law who was a sucess before at Ipswich and also people like David Platt and Peter Taylor, why did you chose Sandy Pettigrew ?
David Sheepshanks : Well I think Sandy's ambition was far greater than all other candidates for th job and with him and his coaching staff we will strive to finish in the top 8 of the premiership and I will back him as much as I can. Thank you that is all the time we have today.
BBC Sports : Good luck and all the best.
Sky Sports : I look forward to hearing from you again, good luck.
