Slow and steady wins the race
First post from me. After employing sensible tactics in the transfer market pre-season, generally trying to add a little depth to the squad I have endured a rather inconsistent start to the championship campaign.
The £400,000 capture of Ritchie Foran bolstered my attacking options, and gave me another option for left-wing, and the loan signings o centerbacks David Wheater, and Liverpool’s Hobbs plus aggressive striker Caleb Folan gave me cheap backup, giving me the opportunity to splash cash on Midfielders Mason and Mulgrew, as well as proven championship striker Rowan Vine.
From the start of the season, I employed a very attacking attitude to every game, and at first it worked well. However, as the games went on, I endured a loss of form, especially up front, and while I still scored goals I was crumbling defensively. To remedy this I decided to go with a completely different approach, and crafted some cautious, defensive 4-5-1 tactics. Immediately the effects were obvious, and two wins on the trot with no goals conceded seemed to suggest the new tactics were working. They also kept Premiership opposition Boro out for 120 minutes in a league cup 0-0 draw, however I eventually crashed out on penalties.
So, as it stands im sitting mid-table, a couple of points off the play offs. Ive not done anything to really catch the eye on or off the pitch, but im steadily making progress and may just ghost in to the playoffs in the near future.
